Tool & Die Manager

To be an effective Tool & Die Supervisor, one must be aware of Company policies and procedures for performance and accountability.  One must also be familiar with the department equipment, personnel and be aware of quality criteria. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

The tool & Die Maker Supervisor is responsible for all these functions. 

  • MACHINING:  Utilizes blueprints, sketched concepts, verbal instructions, various raw materials and machine tools to fabricate and modify. 
  • The manufacturing of machine related parts for use in the facilities and plant production. 
  • Minor mold modification and repair such as pinch work and flash pockets. 
  • The proper record keeping on job cards of beginning and ending times for completed project assignments. 
  • PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE AND MOLD REPAIR:  Performs and documents preventative maintenance for all molds and related tooling.  This work includes but is not limited to radial polishing, replacement of pins and bushings, dimensional inspections, neck/tail swaps, long-term refurbishment, etc. 
  • The upkeep and sharpening of mold related tooling, cutting rings, knife blades, etc., as well as the sharpening and upkeep of machine shop related tooling. 
  • The routine maintenance of the department machinery such as coolant replacement, oiling, cleaning and minor calibrations. 
  • Responsible for a clean and safe working environment.  The work area must maintain company housekeeping standards.  Machine operations will be conducted in a safe and efficient manner with the use of required safety equipment (including safety glasses with side shields, ear plugs and safety shoes). 
  • Troubleshoots, coordinates, performs/out-sources and documents all repairs to molds and related. 
  • NOTE:  The incumbent will be required to provide their own tools. 
  • Responsible for conducting him/herself in a safe manner and adhering to all required safety protocols and policies.  Enforcing all safety policies and procedures with subordinates. 
  • Lead, train and supervise the change over crew and tool & die makers (2). 
  • Provide reporting data regarding timelines for repair, change overs, and pertinent operational data to the Management Team 
  • Required to wear PPE properly in accordance with company standards. 
  • Keep the area around your workstation clean and free from dirt and debris; this may include cleaning assigned areas of the building or pieces of equipment as instructed by your Supervisor. 
  • Must be able to work assigned shifts, including additional hours and attending after hour meetings as needed.  
  • May be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.  

Food Safety Responsibilities 

  • Monitor and verify activities to ensure that all maintenance work in the facility meet food safety standards in addition to quality standards. 
  • Comply with all company food safety and quality assurance procedures and document data correctly at all times. 
  • Ensure all work product contact surfaces are restored to sanitary condition after any job completion. 
  • Report any product or process failures that could impact food safety of manufactured product to Quality and/or 
    Line/Tooling Supervision.

 Education and Experience 

  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Related background in machine trades, with at least 5 years working experience 
  • Tool & Die State Journeyman Certified minimum 
  • Supervisory experience of at least 2 years.

  • Reliability/Dependability - Employee is responsible and accountable for actions, consistent in meeting deadlines and works well with others to follow through on completing tasks.  Employee completes work in a timely, consistent manner and works hours necessary to complete assigned work.  Employee is regularly present and punctual and arrives prepared for work.

 The employee must frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk on concrete. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, bend or twist.  The employee is occasionally required to push, pull, and/or move materials.
