Job Summary : Supervise 20 inmate workers in constructing tiny homes in a plant inside Century Correctional Institution. Train inmates in a variety of skills including basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, roofing, insulation installation, design and space optimization, understanding of building codes, material selection, and potentially skills in renewable energy and water management; essentially encompassing most fundamental construction skills but applied to a smaller scale with a focus on maximizing functionality within limited space.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Provide leadership and supervision to the team.
Supervise and train inmates in to engage in the production of tiny houses.
Promote a safe work environment for inmate workers by enforcing safe PPE practices in your department. Conduct monthly safety meeting.
Train inmate workers in these skills :
Carpentry : Cutting, framing, assembling walls, floors, and ceilings, using power tools like saws, drills,
Plumbing : Installing pipes, fixtures, and drainage systems
Electrical : Wiring, installing outlets, switches, and lighting fixtures
Roofing : Selecting and installing roofing materials, flashing, and proper weatherproofing
Insulation : Choosing and applying insulation materials effectively
Design and Space Optimization : Creating efficient layouts, utilizing multi-functional furniture, and considering storage solutions within a small footprint
Foundation Building : Depending on the design, constructing a trailer-based or permanent foundation
Material Selection : Choosing appropriate building materials for walls, floors, roofs, and finishes considering durability and sustainability
Reading Blueprints : Interpreting construction plans and measurements
Basic Tool Usage : Proficiency with hand tools and power tools necessary for construction
Optional Skills for Advanced Tiny Home Building :
Cabinetry : Building custom cabinetry to fit tight spaces
Window and Door Installation : Precise fitting of windows and doors
Water Harvesting and Filtration : Implementing systems to collect and purify rainwater
5 Confer with staff (to include PRIDE Facilities) to coordinate maintenance operations and activities within the department.
- Inspect equipment to detect defects or malfunctions and take it offline when there is a malfunction.
- Conduct inmate worker training on equipment and its operations and various other tools and make sure they understand the safety procedures or assign employee training to experienced workers.
- Work for requisitioning equipment parts, or repair service.
- Coordinate to ensure maintenance schedules are adhered to and there is no delay in production.
- Have understanding and experience with forklift repair and service.
- Maintaining security of tools and materials.
- Maintain perpetual inventories of building materials and equipment.
Requirements :
PHYSICAL DEMANDS : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand or walk. The employee is regularly required to talk and listen.
WORK ENVIRONMENT : While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving parts. The noise and dust levels are moderate. Employee should be prepared to have personal belongings searched at any given time by Florida Department of Corrections staff.
