We are seeking a qualified Machine Technician who is responsible for making sure that the thermoforming machines are running smoothly, efficiently and that quality product is being produced. A Machine Technician demonstrates significant leadership ability, has a strong work ethic, and consistently strives to meet production schedule expectations and keep downtime to a minimum. The Machine Technician is a hybrid position combining the Machine Operator and Production Mechanic position. A Machine Technician possesses the skills to do the basic tasks of the Production Mechanic while assuming the full knowledge of the Machine Operator. Responsibilities:
- Perform basic machine maintenance as well as assist in daily oiling, greasing, and cleaning of machines.
- Perform start up and shut down of machines when necessary.
- Responsible for general cleanliness and safety of workspace and the manufacturing production floor.
- Maintain a constant knowledge of the schedule and job priority.
- Provide coverage for Line Operator duties if required by performing basic functions such as, pulling, inspecting, counting, packing, wrapping, boxing, labeling, and palletizing produced goods.
- Between jobs, assist with changeovers and set-ups.
- During jobs, stage, verify, and monitor film levels on the backs of the thermoformers while seamlessly keeping the machines running during roll changes including if red tape appears in rolls, change labels, load and interact with Nice Label Solutions
- Diagnose material issues and work with production supervisor and quality techs to follow quarantine procedures.
- Monitor machine settings (i.e. times, temps, air pressure, water gauges, etc.) and make adjustments on the fly to fix minor issues and keep production moving. Work directly with Production Mechanics to make setting changes
- Coordinate with appropriate personnel to minimize downtime.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of defective parts and how to troubleshoot and implement solutions of frequent production issues.
- Troubleshoot basic issues that occur on thermoforming lines to ensure quality parts are being produced.
- Troubleshoot and resolve die cut related issues during set-up and maintain proper cutting throughout the run. This includes changing blades, sharpening blades and shimming.
- Understand, complete, and accurately match all necessary paperwork for each production job (i.e. traveler, roll sheet, roll labels, box labels, pallet labels, pallet scanning, pallet reconciliation, film inventory, partial box inventory, downtime tracker, lot traceability and control documents).
- Make labels for boxes, pallets and produce a new roll sheet every time a lot changes.
- Assist with reconciling, wrapping, and warehousing pallets of finished goods and coordinating scrap from production floor to compactor area.
- Work with mechanics and engineering to gain and maintain mechanical and technical knowledge of production machines and equipment.
- Assist in training of Line Operators and Machine Operators
- Maintain compliance to all Good Manufacturing Practices, ISO, and company quality standards.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications:
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 – 2 years of proven experience in a manufacturing environment in machine operation and troubleshooting
- Must have a keen eye for quality
- Knowledge of plastic mold production a plus
- Must be able to read and understand work instructions in English
- Ability to promote and follow safe workplace practices
- Must have an aptitude for critical thinking and willing to offer feedback and ideas
Physical Requirements:
- Lifting of up to 40 pounds frequently, and up to 75 pounds occasionally
- Frequently reaching, grabbing, twisting and bending
- Standing for extended periods of time
- Extended periods of concentration while safely operating machinery
