Office Support Nurse LPN/RN Tabeguache Family & Sports Medicine

JOB SUMMARY:
This job involves directly assisting the physician in daily tasks ranging from patient and injection preparation to casting and splinting; following the patient from time of arrival to their time of departure and making sure all the patients and physicians needs are met in order to provide the best physician to patient experience as possible.
Patient Care / Clinical Duties
- Triage patient phone calls and tasks
- Respond to voicemails left by patients
- Obtain and chart vital statistics and current medications and allergies
- Gather pertinent data for exam including: Chief Complaint, DOI, Previous Imaging, Previous Treatment, and History of Injury/Illness
- Prepare and position patient for physician exam and treatment
- Provide patient instruction and education materials
- Perform skills from checklist
- Call patients to report test results
- Monitor Gaps in Care and clinical metrics via Eagle Dream Health
- Pre-plan for the next days schedule by checking the following for each patients:
- Gaps in Care
- Immunizations needed
- PDMP (Patient Drug Monitoring Program) Check
- Outstanding orders, referrals, and tasks
- Any recent Follow My Health messages
- Prepare necessary treatments: X-ray Orders, MRI orders, CT Orders, Ultrasound, Injections, and Home Exercise Programs.
- Complete any necessary treatments (casting/splinting) and instructions prior to patient check-out
- Fax/Print referrals as necessary and monitor Work List to ensure completion
- Perform casting to assist Sports Medicine providers in same day fracture care
- Perform EKGs, spirometry, and phlebotomy as needed
- Monitor clinic Prescription and Nurse voicemails and return patient phone calls in a timely manner
- Perform the following as necessary:
- Perform computer/paper tasks related to patient care
- Explain procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and obtain cooperation
- Have critical thinking skills to troubleshoot/identify/solve logistic problems
- Provide back up to other team members during task shifting, low staff, clinic changes, etc.
Assisting Physician
- Assist physicians with specialized procedures
- Keep physician up-to-date and informed of their daily schedule
- Perform various functions as instructed by the physician
- Dispense/Renew/Verify medications per physician requests
- Facilitate incoming calls for physicians; eliminate calls directly to the physician
- Other duties as assigned by physician
- Ability to work in a family practice office as well as a sports medicine office
- Alert provider of Gap(s) in Care the patient may have
- Routinely check provider task bin to assist in the completion of tasks
- Start notes upon rooming each patient and taking vitals
- Scribe if requested
- Initiate verbal completion of tasks with provider(s) or Care Team; documenting work appropriately
- Follow-up with provider(s) or Care Team either in the afternoon prior or the day prior on upcoming schedules
Administrative/Clinical
- Enter charges for vaccines, therapeutic injections, nebulizer, or other treatments given to patient, in-office labs collected and/or performed or specimen packaged for send out to lab.
- Clean/Stock exam rooms (including proper disposal of sharps containers)
- Work collaboratively with all providers and staff to offer the highest quality and comprehensive care for both Sports Medicine and Family Medicine
- Relay phone messages via tasks in EHR
- Controls for lab tests monthly
- Receives samples and imaging drop offs from patients
- Prepare, disinfect, package and autoclave instruments.
- Prepares any possible paperwork prior to provider signing off, faxing to facility if needed
- Monitor overdue orders for patients coming in to the clinic
- Monitor overdue referrals for patients coming in to the clinic
- Maintain clean workstations
- Prepare laundry for pick-up
- Input charges for supplies used
- Perform Opening/Closing Procedures
- Maintain the office Injection Log
- Complete Synvisc Benefit Verifications, pre-authorizations, authorizations, and ordering.

Work Experience
Must be an LPN or RN who is capable of working in any medical environment. Previous medical office experience preferred.
Education Requirements:
RN or LPN Certificate for the state of Colorado.
General Requirements:
A licensed nurse must be able to work in an office environment and have a caring personality and positive attitude. Must be able to remain clam under pressure and be capable of exhibiting sound judge met in difficult situations. Excellent time management, problem solving abilities and communication skills are needed to be successful. Being able to prioritize and accomplish tasks throughout the day, as well as keep your provider on schedule as much as possible; all are a high priority. Must possess the ability to work as part of the Back Office team and work well both collaboratively and individually. Knowledge regarding the proper efficient use of medical terminology is a must. Previous medical office experience preferred, but not essential.
