Job Overview:
The Copyright Coordinator is responsible for managing and overseeing the management, registration, and protection of musical works. This role ensures that Primary Wave complies with copyright laws and industry standards while effectively tracking and securing music rights and royalties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Copyright and Database Management: Maintain and update a comprehensive database of music works, rights holders and licenses; including researching various rights and splits in internal and external public databases, e.g. Domestic and Foreign PROs/CMOs, SoundExchange Direct, publisher administrator portals, etc. This will also include researching Blackbox income with various sources.
- Rights Acquisition and Documentation: Assist the Rights Department in maintaining accurate records of music ownership, licensing, agreements and royalties. This will include various duties like income Tracking (facilitation of Letters of Direction) and implementation of various documentation and agreements.
- Contract Support: Collaborate within the Rights Department and with Business Affairs to ensure proper grasp of catalog rights and acquisitions.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in music business, law or related field (or equivalent experience), preferred.
- Proven experience in music copyright management, licensing, or intellectual property, preferably in a legal or music publishing environment.
- Strong knowledge of copyright law, licensing practices, and rights organizations such as ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with music copyright databases and industry software.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with digital distribution platforms, music streaming services, and related technologies.
- Understanding of music publishing agreements, performance rights, and mechanical royalties.
- Knowledge of international copyright laws and practices.
