Accounts Payable Specialist

Essential Responsibilities

• Processing and monitoring payments and expenditures;
• Perform the daily processing of accounts payable transactions to ensure that municipal finances are maintained in an effective, up to date and accurate manner;
• Receive and verify invoices and requisitions for goods and services;
• Verify that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures;
• Prepare batches of invoices for data entry;
• Data entry of invoices for payment;
• Manage the weekly check run;
• Record all checks;
• Prepare vendor checks for mailing
• Prepare manual checks as and when required;
• Maintain a filing system for all financial documents;
• Ensure the confidentiality and security of all financial files.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree (or higher) or equivalent experience in an accounting position
• Self-motivated, reliable, and credible;
• Accurate and detail oriented;
• Ability to multi task and manage deadlines;
• Possess a solid understanding of the overall operations of an Accounting Department;
• Critical thinking capabilities;
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Applications;
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal;
• Ability to work well alone or with a team, for a high-level output
