Responds to escalated customer inquiries and ensures that returns and investigations are processed within a reasonable timeframe to mitigate customer impact. Monitor and act on SWIFT incoming payments and messages. Assist with clearing outstanding reconciliation outages. Also responsible for processing wire transfer requests when required.

The Wire Transfer Research Specialist primary responsibilities relate to investigating Domestic, International money transfers. Responds to escalated customer inquiries and ensures that returns and investigations are processed within a reasonable timeframe to mitigate customer impact. Monitor and act on SWIFT incoming payments and messages. Assist with clearing outstanding reconciliation outages. Also responsible for processing wire transfer requests when required.
Responsibilities
- Researches and tracks customer and bank initiated inquiries and returns. Inquiries and returns should be processed within a reasonable timeframe to mitigate customer impact.
- Properly escalates all fraud related investigations ensuring both the customer and Bank are protected.
- Evaluates appropriate method of resolving investigation. Properly escalates all investigations via Federal Reserve, correspondent bank and/or SWIFT.
- Processes or takes appropriate action on incoming SWIFT messages.
- Processes and/or reconciles outstanding credits on upstream bank accounts such as incoming wires posted to our account.
- Analyzes and funds/draws available funds with upstream correspondent banks.
- Negotiates and escalates potential bank or customer losses.
- Researches highly confidential wire transfer records in accordance with legal services. Provides research findings to the bank’s Process Unit.
- Trains employees on the wire transfer system and assists in training of both internal and external customers.
- Processes outgoing and incoming wiring instructions from customers, branches, and departments. Verifies the validity of these instructions and initiates corrective action if needed.
- Evaluates error patterns and escalates for coaching purposes.
- Answers phone calls from employees and customers throughout the day.
- Follows security and operational control procedures for the funds transfer systems.
- Prepares various spreadsheet and database reports according to prescribed schedules and procedures.
- Processes outgoing and incoming wiring instructions from customers, branches, and departments. Verifies the validity of these instructions and initiates corrective action if needed.
- Additional duties as required.
- High School Diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent required. Associates degree, Bachelor’s degree, or progress toward a degree strongly preferred.
- Two or more years of progressive experience in retail banking, bank risk/fraud, or payment operations. Direct experience in wire transfer experience strongly preferred. Must have working knowledge of the wire transfer process.
- Experience with SWIFT messaging system a plus.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and with a team
- Strong analytical, time management, organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task and work in a deadline-driven environment.
- Must have proven ability to work under pressure and with a strong attention to detail.
- Persistent and diligent in follow through on pending tasks and standing tasks.
- Excellent PC skills, including word processing and spreadsheets via Microsoft Office products as well as custom applications and systems.
- Strong leadership skills for team interaction and internal and external client base.
- Must be able to follow established work days and holidays published by the Federal Reserve—the wire transfer department must report to work regardless of weather conditions.
