Mechanical Engineer
Job Summary:
Mechanical Designers and Engineers bring the power to Primus projects. This is design role. In addition to producing accurate and timely technical designs in a traditional plan and spec format, engineers are expected to work in a team approach to deliver solutions.
General Duties:
Design Emphasis
- HVAC
- System selection and detailed design
- Cooling load calculations, ammonia refrigeration room ventilation, battery charging rooms, office space, truck maintenance facilities, warehouse heating and ventilation, etc.
- Plumbing
- System design and specification
- Domestic cold and hot water, sanitary, waste and vent, acid waste and vent, storm drainage, natural gas piping, etc.
- Fire Protection
- Criteria documents for sprinkler systems
- Coordination with project insurance underwriters
- Fire tanks, fire pumps, wet sprinkler systems, dry systems, double interlock, quell, ESFR, etc.
- Process Piping
- Detailed piping connections to equipment
- Compressed air systems, nitrogen, steam and condensate return, chilled water, hot water, deionized water, water softeners, lubrication systems (grease, oil, antifreeze), etc.
- Planning and Proposal Phase
- Conceptualize and document project mechanical systems (fire protection, plumbing, HVAC, process piping) in preliminary drawings and outline specifications
- Collaborate with the design and construction management team to select and steer differing project scope ideas and communicate probable impacts for decision-making
- Participate in final proposal preparation as necessary
- Detailed Design Phase
- Perform engineering calculations, select, and apply equipment
- Prepare Schematic Design, Design Development and Construction Documents packages
- Coordinate with all members of design team
- Identify early and advise team of scope creep
- Construction Phase
- Answer field requests for information
- Collaborate in the Value Engineering process
- Review mechanical submittals for compliance
- Attend periodic field reviews and meetings
- Prepare final record documentation
Qualifications
Qualifications and Skills:
- BSME
- Approachable, helpful, and positive
- Self-starter and inquisitive
- Ability to advance designs with minimal oversight
- Familiarity with codes and standards related to building design and construction
- Effective verbal communication and coordination skills
- Ability to produce mechanical designs at a computer 8 hours a day
- Concise and accurate technical writing skills
- AutoCAD – basic proficiency required. Enthusiastic willingness to learn and advance our use of this valuable tool in our presentations and designs.
- Revit MEP – basic proficiency required. Enthusiastic willingness to learn and advance our use of this valuable tool in our presentations and designs.
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
