The Prince George’s County Department of Permitting, Inspections, & Enforcement is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN III position, grade A20, in the Site/Road Permit Processing Unit Division.
About the Position:
This is senior level para-professional engineering work performed in the field or office, where the application of engineering skill is applied. Incumbents assist higher level para-professional or professional engineering positions by performing the more difficult skilled and technical work in support of County wide engineering and planning projects. Incumbents perform the most complex engineering assignments alone or as a member of a team. Assignments afford opportunities for considerable independent judgment and technical evaluation under the general supervision of a higher level engineering position.
About The Agency:The Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE) is responsible for coordinating and enforcing standards that control what goes on before, during, and after construction. Staff from nine agencies, who work cooperatively on permit processing, business licensing, plan review, inspection and enforcement comprise Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement. The Mission of the Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement is to promote economic development in Prince George's County and protect the safety of County residents, businesses, and visitors through efficient permitting, inspection and licensing services to ensure compliance with established building, zoning and property standards codes.
Examples of Work
- Collects, compiles and analyzes engineering data in order to make recommendations to supervisor and complete assigned studies.
- Performs mathematical computations in order to tabulate engineering data collected or compiled in the office or field.
- Prepares plans and drawings and reviews consultant plans for accurate use of County standards, using field notes or sketches.
- Assembles specifications into final form for projects designed in-house and reviews same for consultant projects.
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or GED, supplemented by college level courses in higher mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, geometry) and civil engineering, plus
- Four (4) years of para-professional engineering experience;
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in process modeling/design, changes, and reengineering.
- Experience with ePlan (ProjectDox/ProjectFlow)Momentum or similar plans review applications.
- Experience with CADD (Computer Aided Design and Drafting) or similar applications.
- Experience with electronic permitting systems.
- Experience with database tools and creating and executing reports.
- Experience with processing bonds and coordinating the release of bonds.
- Project Management knowledge.
- Strong ability to speak and present in a public forum.
Additional Information
Conditions of Employment: Upon selection, the candidate must:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must pass a physical examination.
- Must be willing to participate as a critical, essential employee in the Department's Snow and Ice Control Program and other emergency special activities as assigned.
- Must be willing to work an adjusted schedule, if needed.
