Supervisor of Construction (or project Administrative Coordinator)
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with all hierarchical levels within the School Division.
- Deliver appropriate constructive analysis verbally and in written format.
- Show excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Analyze and interpret technical data and communicate it to non-technical individuals.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, principals, contractors, parents, and local, state, and federal government officials.
Technical knowledge in the following areas strongly preferred:
- Standards and procedures for planning, design, scheduling and quality control for construction of new and renovation of existing school facilities.
- Basic principles and practices of engineering, architecture, mechanical maintenance, construction operations and processes.
- Site development, building structures, mechanical systems, temperature control systems, plumbing systems, electrical systems, and electronic building support systems.
- Requirements of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Codes and requirements of Prince William County Design and Construction Standards.

In the performance of this job, the employee will regularly be subjected to extreme weather conditions including, but not limited to, extreme heat and cold, rain, ice, and snow. This position is designed to work closely with the construction contractors. During emergencies and extenuating customer scheduling requirements, the employee will be required to commit to an irregular work schedule, which will include altering day hours as necessary and working weekends, evenings, and holidays to accommodate construction phases.
This is skilled field work, performed under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Construction and/or his/her designated project Administrative Coordinator. The Field Construction Representative is expected to perform work that involves the visual oversight, inspection, and reporting on the quality of construction work being performed as it compares with contract plans and specifications. This employee will be expected to electronically document daily field activity.
An essential function of this position is the ability to work in person and physically report for work at the school.
Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Works collaboratively with all stakeholders in providing a World-Class Education.
- Attends progress meetings.
- Completes electronic daily progress notes and submits to Administrative Coordinator/Supervisor.
- Works with the project Administrative Coordinator to resolve problems concerning scheduling and coordination of diverse construction activities.
- Reviews and recommends actions for design details and construction in place.
- Participates in and makes recommendations for the development of architect/engineer plan submissions for schematic, design development, construction document design stages, and value engineering.
- Assists in developing new and/or renewal project requirements with appropriate staff and prepares cost estimates, and design and construction schedules.
- Makes recommendations regarding preparation and maintenance of construction specifications.
- Supports a continuous quality control process to ensure construction compliance with contract requirements and that warranty issues are resolved.
- Ensures internal customer satisfaction.
- Assesses work progress, scheduling, and recommends changes and actions for improvement.
- Reviews change order documents for fairness, accuracy, and completeness.
- Verifies project closeout requirements, as-built documents, O&M submissions, permit releases and occupancy.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
