Overview

Works under the Laboratory's QA Program to provide QA support to various projects and activities, with an emphasis on auditing/assessments. The support may be in a variety of areas including:

  • Leading or participating in audits, both of PPPL programs and or suppliers, including:
    • Audit planning (identification of audit scope and methods)
    • Audit execution
    • Report development and issuance
    • Support of the development of Corrective Action Plans, and
    • Corrective Action monitoring and verification of closure
  • Providing QA support to the procurement of items and/or services, including:
    • Evaluation and qualification of prospective suppliers
    • Identifying appropriate quality requirements for inclusion in Purchasing documents (SOW, Technical Specifications, etc.)
    • Participating as a consultant on teams evaluating proposals
    • Providing quality oversight and support throughout the procurement effort
    • Reviewing supplier submittals for compliance, and
    • Supporting the development of receipt inspection plans.
  • Managing the process for the documentation and disposition of Non-Conforming Material
  • Supporting the development of Technical Procedures
  • Performing analyses of data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Participating in lessons learned & root cause analyses
  • Reviewing processes and programs for improvement opportunities. The individual may be assigned ownership responsibilities for selected processes.
  • Other activities identified by the QA Program Manager

Responsibilities

Core Duties: 

  • Perform various high-level quality program work functions with only general management direction. E.g., Planning and leading complex audits, quality support for critical, technically challenging procurements or leading complex audits. Provided the requirements of the associated quality program are satisfied, the individual has full responsibility and freedom for organizing, executing, and coordinating these assignments. (85%)

  • Other assignments, as identified by the QA Program Manager. (10%)

  • Self-Development including obtaining professional certifications, attending conferences and training, participating in professional society activities, etc. (5%)

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Minimum five years of technical or quality experience in manufacturing or research and development.
  • Eight additional years of experience related to the major responsibilities of this position may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Sound understanding of Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO9001:2015, AS9100D).
  • Ability to interpret complex Engineering drawings (GD&T - ASME Y14.5).
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) & Google Suite of Applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others and to lead a team to accomplish specific tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Experience with welding codes and best practices (preferred).
  • Experience programming CMM (preferred).

Certificates and Licenses: 

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (preferred).
  • ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (preferred).
  • Certified Lead Auditor, ISO9001:2015 (preferred). 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to oversee work at suppliers’ facilities or in the field.

Working Conditions: 

  • Primarily first shift office/computer work.
