What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fund Accounting Analyst- Investment Accounting position at Principal Financial Group?
We’re looking for a Fund Accounting Analyst to join our Investment Accounting team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for performing day-to-day fund accounting activities for a group of assigned funds including calculating and reporting the NAV, reconciling cash and position holdings, reviewing and closing exceptions, and resolving discrepancies. Incumbent may be asked to assist in monthly reporting requirements and answer ad hoc questions.
- Perform monthly fund accounting activities for a group of assigned funds. Partner with fund administrators to execute timely and accurate NAV calculation of funds which includes accounting for purchases, sales, income accruals and expenses, to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Perform cash and position holdings reconciliations. Research and clear discrepancies in a timely manner through clear communication with senior team members as needed. Review identified exception affecting accounting records and prices and assist senior team members as needed to close them. Ensure activities are completed in compliance with internal control procedures and guidelines.
- Identify opportunities and solutions to improve workflow, procedures and processes with a focus on increasing efficiency and accuracy and eliminating pain points; present ideas to the team and if supported, communicate (verbally and via written documentation) changes. Take initiative to research new situations that arise and communicate findings/learnings with the team; develop documentation where appropriate.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting. Provide detailed follow-up responses to internal and external parties when additional information is required.
- Perform other job-related duties or special projects as required.

Who You Are
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent required, plus two or more years of relevant work experience
- Strong preference towards candidates with a bachelor’s degree in accounting with previous experience in fund accounting
- Knowledge of the investment market, securities and related accounting principles
- Ability to learn systems and applications used within the firm required; proficiency with system and applications strong preferred
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$57000 - $77900 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
