What are the responsibilities and job description for the Investment Oversight Analyst position at Principal Financial Group?
We are looking for an Analyst to join our Investment & Platform Oversight (IPO) team! IPO is responsible for investment strategy and manager oversight across Principal’s mutual fund, collective investment trust, UCIT and life insurance separate account platforms.
In this role, you will assist IPO team members in the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of internal and external investment managers. You will also lead the team’s efforts in the production and efficient use of data via FactSet and Morningstar Direct, third-party analytical toolsets.
Specially, you will have an opportunity to:
- Research and compile qualitative and quantitative information, conduct investment performance analysis, prepare quarterly investment oversight reports for internal partners and governance boards
- Monitor investment portfolios daily to ensure compliance with the Investment Guidelines
- Lead projects, process reviews and/or system enhancements that support investment oversight initiatives
- Communicate and respond to data requests from internal partners

Who You Are
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in business or related field, preferably with a major in finance or economics
- General understanding of investment managers and general knowledge of current economic and financial market conditions
- Ability to efficiently research, compile, and analyze information in a deadline driven environment
Skills That Will Help You Stand Out
- 3 years of investment analytical experience
- Advanced Excel proficiency, experience with FactSet and Morningstar Direct
- Track record of motivated work approach and demonstrated ability to learn quickly. Ability to act with independent judgment
- Career aspirations or in-pursuit of becoming a CFA charter holder
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
Location: This position will be in Des Moines Iowa and will benefit from a hybrid work arrangement, with an average of 4 days a week onsite.

Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$71250 - $110000 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
