What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sales Manager – Individual Solutions position at Principal Financial Group?
We’re looking for a Sales Manager – Individual Solutions to join our Retirement Income Solutions Principal Connection team! In this role, you’ll lead Financial Consultants who are responsible for assisting and engaging with sophisticated investment customers to build and retain relationships with Principal.
- Oversee all activities of Individual Solutions Sales Financial Consultants related to all customer interactions and solutioning of appropriate products and services of Principal in support of department initiatives.
- Serve as the Supervising Registered Representative (SRR) for staff, who are registered representatives with Principal Securities Inc. (PSI) and Principal Advised Services (PAS), as IAR’s, who will, at times, utilize Principal Securities (PSI) Best Interest process and or PAS’s Fiduciary/Advisory process to assist current and prospective customers with their financial needs.
- Establish and enforce appropriate production/productivity and/or service level standards according to department and compliance guidelines and quality standards. Includes timeliness, number of inbound and outbound calls, after call work, accuracy of information and quality communicated via the telephone and written communication sent via paper or electronically.
- Provide leadership of staff including retention and development of top talent through coaching, performance management, and employee engagement. Involved in the selection, motivation, salary administration, and performance appraisals of direct reports as well as training, scheduling work, and maintaining department budget.
- Responsible for meeting department goals and ensuring proper oversight of department, compliance and legal processes and standards to mitigate risks.
- Consistent delivery and accountability around business routines including but not limited to Goal Selling Meetings, Sales Meetings, Team Meetings, Skill Developments, driving accountability with Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s), and consistent completion of the Monthly Manager Check List (MMCL).
- Lead development, teamwork, collaboration, and relationship building within Principal Individual Solutions. Promote and represent our One Principal philosophy.
- Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Who You Are
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, plus 8 years of experience on a sales or service team marketing products & services
- FINRA Series 7, FINRA Series 63/65 or 66 registrations required. FINRA Series 24 required immediately upon employment
- Requires a high degree of analytical skill, financial planning acumen, extensive knowledge of the industry, competitor’s product offering, and business practices
- Must have the ability to coach, develop, influence, and motivate staff to meet department and company goals
- Must be able to provide clear direction and define priorities that are linked to business strategies and goals of the company
- Ability to build and sustain strong trusted partnerships with employees, peers, and colleagues in other working groups based on mutual trust
- Critical to posses a high degree of personal accountability and ability to motivate and influence others. Sound operational and supervisory judgment
- Must possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated commitment to holding yourself and others to a high degree of integrity
- This position may be subject to SEC restrictions on personal political contributions

Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$95200 - $182400 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
