Definition:
The Vehicle Supply Technician (VST) maintains a dual support role within the vehicle and supply divisions of Maricopa Ambulance. The primary responsibility of the VST is certifying a clean, safe and stocked environment for field operations staff to promote a quick and effective deployment of services.
Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates complete knowledge, understanding and compliance of company policies and procedures.
- Ensures that ambulance and all equipment is ready for use at the beginning of each shift. This includes but is not limited to appropriate cleaning and disinfecting of the interior and exterior of the vehicle, appropriate cleaning and disinfecting of equipment, completing daily checklists of the vehicle and equipment, inspecting and restocking the vehicle, and performing some routine maintenance.
- Ensures security of buildings, vehicles, equipment and all other company property.
- Performs daily inspections of base and/or station for cleanliness.
- Appropriately and safely delivers the equipment or supplies to the appropriate locations.
- Acts at all times with his/her personal safety in mind, as well as the safety of other support staff, EMS personnel, bystanders, and any other public safety personnel present.
- Maintains security and privacy of all company and patient information at all times in accordance HIPAA and all other local, state and federal regulations.
- Is familiar with and practices the Infection Control policies and procedures of the company. Adheres to Universal Precautions/Body Substance Isolation when necessary.
- Reports to assigned shifts properly groomed in uniform and on time, unless the proper notification has been made. Remains on-duty and in proper uniform until properly relieved.
- At all times sets an example of professionalism and leadership for others to follow.
- Places patient welfare, care excellence, and safety above all else.
- Performs other duties as directed by management.
Specific Duties:
- Maintain supply, service, stocking, and decontamination areas and equipment according to protocol, and ensuring these areas are free of safety concerns
- Report all unsafe conditions or practices to a supervisor
- Drive company vehicles with due regard, abiding to all laws and company protocols
- Clean and decontaminate the ambulance patient and crew compartments
- Wash the exterior of the ambulance and other company vehicles as needed
- General inspection of vehicles and proper reporting of damage or issues
- Stock supplies and equipment in proper storage areas and company vehicles
- Assist with inventory of supplies and equipment in supply room and company vehicles
- Restock supplies and equipment on company vehicles preparing for service
- Review all product expiration dates. Dispose of expired product in appropriate manner
- Check, change, and/or replace main and portable oxygen tanks
- Be knowledgeable regarding company equipment and routinely check equipment for proper functionality
- Document and report equipment that does not function safely or work at all
- Properly handle and dispose of biohazard materials
- Accurately maintain computerized, manual, and paper records
- Recharge and calibrate equipment batteries
- Handle field crew concerns in a courteous manner
Reports To:
- Support Services Manager
- Other Operations Command Staff as appropriate for all operation activities.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Currently licensed with the appropriate level of state motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Currently has a clean driving record as approved by company vehicle liability insurer.
- Must possess a high degree of personal integrity and responsibility.
- Must have the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, using good judgment.
- Must have the ability to work efficiently manage multiple tasks
- Must have the ability to interact in a constructive and professional manner with other employees, public safety personnel and medical staff.
- Must have the ability to interact effectively and professionally with the general public in such a manner as to reflect positively on the company.
- Must observe traffic ordinances and regulations concerning both emergency and unmarked vehicle operation.
Physical Requirements:
- The ability to reach, push and pull, and sit or stand for long periods of time.
- The ability to bend, stoop, squat and kneel for long periods of time.
- The ability to walk a minimum distance of one quarter of a mile without difficulty.
- The ability to walk up and down stairs without difficulty.
- The ability to lift and maneuver heavy weight up and down two flights of stairs without difficulty.
- The ability to complete all job duties during any and all hours of the day and night.
