Under the direction of the Prison Industries Superintendent I (Wood Products), the incumbent is responsible for assisting in the overall planning, organization, and supervision of the wood products enterprise within a state correctional facility. Employees will have regular and substantial contact with persons incarcerated in California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation institution and/or medical facilities.

CALPIA Wood Products program is designed to meet California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) institutional needs statewide. You will train and mentor incarcerated individuals who will gain knowledge and skills needed to meet the highest possible standards for Wood Products and increase one’s chances for employment opportunities upon release.

Employees new to CALPIA will be required to attend New Employee Orientation (NEO) prior to starting work within an institution or Central Office. NEO is 4.5 days (36 hours) and will be conducted at the Green Valley Training Center in Folsom, CA. New employees traveling 50 miles or more from their home address or headquarters location to attend NEO will receive a travel advance sufficient for meals, incidentals, and travel accommodations for the duration of NEO. Any questions or concerns regarding NEO training can be addressed during the interview process.

Desirable Qualifications
- Experience at the level of an Industrial Supervisor or equivalent in supervising, leading, directing, and/or giving instruction and training to staff engaged in the production of wood furniture & evaluating individual performance
- Woodworking and/or upholstery experience, knowledge of wood furniture/cabinetry, carpentry or upholstery trade
- Industrial safety experience and knowledge of OSHA and other industrial health and safety requirements and quality control
- Computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and database systems
- Valid Class A or B Commercial driver license or forklift certification
- College Degree
- Experience with CNC/CAD and reading blueprints/plans
- Ability to communicate with all levels of staff, managers and stakeholders
- Attention to detail
- Ability to demonstrate the safe operation of industry-specific machinery and tools
