What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equine Barn Manager position at Private Family Farm?
Private family facility in Alabama seeks individual capable of managing barn, and riding, training, and conditioning A-level show hunters, multi-purpose schooling horses, foxhunters, and retirees. The barn manager/resident trainer manages daily operations, rides and trains horses, supervises other employee, assists owners’ riding, and works in conjunction with out-of-town trainer. Typical tasks include tack and boot cleaning, laundry, body clipping, scheduling, trailering horses to shows and foxhunting meets, planning jump courses and exercises, facilitating sales and purchases, nightcheck, caring for barn and house dogs when needed, and accompanying owners foxhunting. This person must be able to jump a 3‘ course proficiently, ride approximately 4 to 6 horses a day, and condition and jump foxhunters in woods and fields unaccompanied. Ideal candidate has a formal lesson and showing background, doesn’t want to manage a bustling business, and would love to maintain a small number of very nice horses to a very high standard. Our ideal barn manager/resident trainer/rider enjoys a quiet, family-oriented environment, is interested in a wide variety of horse-centered activities, will maintain existing positive relationships with other staff and support community, and is extremely clean and organized. 10 stall facility with indoor and outdoor riding arenas, 500 acres of fields and wooded trails. Experience driving a dually truck and at least a 32 ft. long trailer, an excellent driving record, valid driver license, and ability to work legally in the U.S. is required, and employees are background checked and drug tested.
Very nice furnished house with 2 bedrooms, high ceilings, large windows, gated driveway, porch, garden area and fenced yard is within 1 mile of barn.
Salary depends upon experience, and includes insurance, 401K plan, furnished very nice house nearby, no own horse, one approved dog possible.
