Position Overview
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities of National Underground Group’s locating business, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, and providing strategic financial guidance to executive leadership. This role will manage financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls while supporting business growth and operational efficiency in the utility locating industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, working closely with department heads to align financial plans with strategic goals.
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and financial performance, providing recommendations for improvement.
- Manage the financial close process, including reconciliations and variance analysis.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, audits, and financial reporting requirements.
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making at the executive level.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions.
- Support M&A activities, financial due diligence, and integration of acquisitions as needed.
- Lead and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA required.
- 7 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, time in a leadership role in these areas is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience in the utility locating, construction, or infrastructure industries is a plus.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, Acumatica).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and mentor a high-performing team.
