Position Title: Liquid Measurement Technician
Location: Permian Basin
Reporting To: Measurement Foreman
Job Summary:
The Liquid Measurement Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of liquid measurement equipment. The technician will collect liquid and gas samples, ensure accurate flow measurements, and maintain compliance with industry regulations. The role includes gathering and documenting data, monitoring equipment performance, and working safely with hazardous materials. This is a hands-on position requiring technical expertise, communication skills, and the ability to work independently or with a team.
Responsibilities:
- Collect gas and liquid samples in accordance with customer schedules and safety regulations.
- Perform tank gauging, liquid sampling, oil separation via centrifuge, and API gravity/S&W determinations.
- Use and maintain basic measurement equipment, including liquid provers, pipeline equipment, and valves.
- Receive and process job orders, obtaining necessary information and paperwork from Field Supervisors.
- Maintain and manage job tickets, daily logs, and inventory on company trucks.
- Ensure all paperwork is promptly and accurately completed and tickets are entered into Servicetech daily for billing purposes.
- Ensure all equipment, including safety and monitoring equipment, is properly calibrated, verified, correct, and clean.
- Install, operate, troubleshoot, and repair meters, flow computers, samplers, and other measurement-related devices.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting, calibration, and repair on meters and electronic flow meters (EFMs) on wellheads, pad levels, and custody transfer points.
- Schedule and witness meter calibrations and inspections performed by third-party contractors.
- Work in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and industry standards (EPA, DOT, OSHA, API, GPA).
- Report discrepancies, incidents, or equipment malfunctions to the Technician Supervisor without delay.
- Follow safety best practices, including proper PPE use, and handle hazardous materials in compliance with MSDS guidelines.
- Collect and report customer data from flow computers, maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
- Document workflows, calibrations, and measurements; maintain spreadsheets, EFM programs, and electronic records.
- Communicate with internal and external personnel during key meetings, representing the company professionally and ethically.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 months experience in liquid measurement or a similar field.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license and good-standing driving record.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access).
- Basic understanding of gas and liquid measurement processes, standards, and equipment (e.g., orifice, turbine, Coriolis, ultrasonic meters).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong working knowledge of flow measurement software (Flow Cal, TESTit) and EFM installation and calibration.
- Knowledge of gas chromatography theory and equipment applications.
- Experience working in midstream operations with knowledge of cryogenic plants, pumps, compressors, NGL storage, and transfer facilities.
- Previous experience with SCADA communication systems and troubleshooting.
Physical & Work Requirements:
- Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, with flexibility based on work assignments.
- Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 20 pounds.
- Work both indoors (office) and outdoors, often in adverse weather conditions.
- Occasional travel may be required to job sites or for field inspections.
