Position Summary
The basic function of this position is to act as the chief crew member on the job site to manage and complete all assigned projects on time, under budget, safely, and within tolerance in a manner that aligns with Procon, Inc’s vision, mission, and values. Field superintendents will often be involved with projects that require careful coordination with other team members and trades. They will help set an example and lead the way on their job sites by upholding Procon Incs Mission, Vision and Values and by building up other employees on their sites. This position will, at times, be an intense position with a high level of stress. This job will require a high degree of common sense, logical thought processes and the ability to meet strict deadlines in order to overcome the various challenges that will be faced on a day to day basis. All employees are expected to adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the Procon Employee Handbook and Corporate Safety Manual and behave in a manner that aligns with Procon’s Values.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Pre-planning and Clerical
- Thoroughly review project contract and all supporting documents to become familiar with complete scope as well as jobsite specific activities and requirements
- Review all project drawings, shop drawings, etc as soon as available
- Assist project manager with creation of budget from approved estimate, as well as assisting with creation of internal (Procon) project schedule
- Assist project manager in making final “buyout” decisions regarding material suppliers, vendors and subcontractors
- Assist project manager as needed in compilation and submission of all submittals, including any safety and/or quality control plans
- Create and maintain good working relationships with coworkers, customers, and suppliers to keep smooth flow of operations, such as manpower plans, deliveries, concrete pours, and overall jobsite progress
- Effectively and accurately document all jobsite activities through a daily log which includes work completed, working conditions, delays, issues, man hours worked, employee timecards, etc.
- Initiate process of creating and submitting RFI’s and change orders as needed, providing details and information to project manager. Ensure RFI’s and change orders are received in order to maintain production and schedule
- Take the lead in, and ensure completion of, all daily safety planning and checks such as daily pre-task planning, equipment, incident reports, and tool inspection checklists, etc.
- Maintain accurate time collection records and ensure accurate entry for all assigned projects and employees
- Ensure that proper pre-pour checklists are completed prior to any concrete pour
Jobsite Management- Take responsibility for any and all activities or events that occur on assigned projects
- Manage and lead all activities that are within Procon’s scope on assigned projects
- Monitor and manage all costs associated with project, keeping project within budget parameters
- Monitor schedule and production to keep project on track for timely completion
- Make decisions regarding start up/shut down issues on assigned projects and instruct crew members accordingly
- Determine means and methods of completion of projects, within Procon standards and core values
- Lead all safety related functions on project, including, but not limited to, pre-task planning, site evaluations, incident reports, inspections, and housekeeping, etc.
- Ensure that all assigned Procon projects are built in the highest quality and according to plans and specs provided
- Ensure that all equipment, vehicles, and tools issued by Procon are kept in safe, good working order and used properly
- Represent Procon in job site progress meetings or any other meetings as requested
Personnel Management- Coordinate and manage all manpower needed to complete assigned projects
- Includes assisting General Superintendent with recruiting and terminating employees as needed and job situations warrant
- Conduct disciplinary action and performance evaluations on all direct reports as needed
- Clearly communicate goals and expectations to crew members, including but not limited to, allotted man hours, amount of work to be completed, schedule, etc.
- Assist with development and training of other field employees
Additional Responsibilities- Be available to answer work related calls on company issued cell phone at any time
- All other duties required by the Director of Operations or General Superintendent
- Follow all policies and procedures as set forth in the Employee Handbook and Corporate Safety Program
- Will be on site or assign a competent person to be on site at all times that Procon employees are at work. Superintendent or competent person should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to crew start times.
Qualifications, Competencies and skills:
- A valid driver’s license is required
- OSHA 30 certification required
- 1 or more years of construction leadership experience is required
- Ability to read and interpret plans/drawings is required
- The ability to speak, read, and write in English is required
- The ability to also speak, read and write in Spanish is preferred
- Strong leadership skills are required
- Moderate computer and technology skills are required
- A moderate level of industry knowledge is required
