SUMMARY

The Boston Bruins, a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL), is seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Content and Communications to lead and oversee all aspects of content creation, media relations, public relations, and communications for the organization. This executive role plays a pivotal part in shaping the team's public image, engaging with fans, acting as a spokesperson for the brand and hockey club, and fostering strong relationships with media, players, coaches, and other stakeholders. This role serves as the company voice and partners closely with TD Garden’s communications team on all Bruins-related matters.

Vice President of Content and Communications will work closely with the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO), Chief Executive Officer (CEO), General Manager (GM), and President of the club to ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives. This role leads the Communications and Content department in the creation and management of all the Communications, Media Relations, Content and Player relations for the Boston Bruins. In doing so, develops and oversees all of the media and public relations strategies and efforts of the Boston Bruins; manages the strategic development of unique and compelling content that the Bruins can distribute via their digital and social channels as well as NESN; manages the communications team that interacts with player and alumni relations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Strategy and Creation:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy that aligns with the team's brand, voice, and marketing objectives.
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of compelling multimedia content, including articles, videos, social media posts, and graphics, to engage the fan base and drive fan loyalty.
Media Relations:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for media outlets, ensuring effective and positive communication with journalists, reporters, and broadcasters.
  • Develop and maintain strong media relationships to enhance coverage of the team, its players, and events.
  • Handle media inquiries, press releases, and interview requests to ensure consistent messaging and brand representation.
Public Relations:
  • Develop and execute public relations strategies to enhance the team's reputation and public image.
  • Proactively seek opportunities for media coverage and positive exposure for the team, players, and coaches.
  • Respond to media inquiries and manage any potential crises or sensitive issues that may arise.
Spokesperson for the Brand and Hockey Club:
  • Act as a spokesperson for the Boston Bruins, representing the team and its values in media interviews, public appearances, and community events.
  • Articulate the team's vision, mission, and community initiatives to the public and stakeholders.
Player and Coach Communications:
  • Collaborate closely with players, coaches, and team management to facilitate effective communication with the media and the public.
  • Provide guidance and media training to players and coaches to ensure they are well-prepared for interviews and public appearances.
Hockey Operations Communications:
  • Coordinate and manage communications related to team transactions, player injuries, and other hockey operations news.
  • Work closely with the hockey operations department to convey consistent and accurate information to the media and fans.
TD Garden and Delaware North cobranded events/initiatives:
  • Work with DN Communications on various cobranded events/initiatives as well as public relations matters regarding the Jacobs family.
  • Work with the Corporate Partnerships and Marketing departments to find new streams of revenue through content development and production.
Press Conferences and Events:
  • Plan and execute press conferences and media events in conjunction with major team announcements, player signings, and game-related activities.
  • Ensure a seamless and professional experience for media members attending these events.
High-Performance Team (HPT) Building:
  • Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performance content and communications team, fostering a collaborative and creative work environment.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to team members to enhance their skills and professional development.
  • Work closely with Human Resources team on all people related matters.
Digital and Social Media Management:
  • Oversee the team's digital and social media presence, ensuring content is engaging, relevant, and consistent with the brand.
  • Monitor and analyze social media metrics to optimize content performance and fan engagement.
Crisis Communication:
  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans to manage and respond to sensitive or challenging situations that may arise.
  • Respond appropriately and quickly to matters of significance that require a response from Bruins’ senior leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Either (8) years of experience in content creation, media relations, public relations, or communications, ideally within the sports industry or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a team and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Strong knowledge of hockey and the NHL, with a deep understanding of the Boston Bruins' history, players, and fan base.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Proven track record in developing and executing successful content strategies across various platforms.
  • Excellent media relations skills, with an established network of media contacts.
  • Ability to act as a spokesperson for the brand and confidently represent the hockey club in public-facing events and interviews.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for game-related events and press conferences.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the year, both domestically and internationally.
  • Must maintain documentation that would allow for international travel for the duration of employment.
  • Ability to adapt quickly in times of high communication needs and respond appropriately in a fast-paced environment.
ADA Requirements
  • Must be able to walk, climb up and down stairs and stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to perform all duties in an environment that includes extreme to dim lighting (including strobes), varying noise levels, large crowds and hot to cold temperatures.
  • Proficient in using computers and phones.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. unassisted.
  • Able to remain stationary at desk for 50% of the day minimum.
  • Must be able to walk, climb up and down stairs and stand for long periods of time.
