Job Description
Position Title: Controller Status: Non-Exempt
Department: Administration Reports to: Director of Financial Services
Productive Alternatives Inc is a non-profit human services agency specializing in creating pathways to employment for adults with disabilities. We have been serving Central and West Central Minnesota since 1959. PAI is looking to hire an experienced Controller.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Prepare monthly closing entries to generate accurate financial statements and facilitate comprehensive reports and analysis of financial data
· Inform the management team about financially related information that is essential for the efficient operation of the agency
· Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of payroll, cash receipts, bank deposits, bank statements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, consumer services, and related reports
· Coordinate with team members to address needs from the software vendor for maintaining accounting software systems; recommend updates to improve the software
· Maintain knowledge of accepted accounting practices and procedures
· Analyze, research, and communicate noteworthy points to departments during budget preparation, and prepare the budget incorporating feedback from site managers
· Maintain records following federal, state, and local laws and regulations concerning fixed assets, liabilities, insurance, contracts, and leases to prevent loss, waste, and misuse
· Serve as a liaison between clients and the accounting clerk to negotiate acceptable payment plans
· Assist in coordinating the activities of the Support Service Staff to ensure the timely and accurate completion of all necessary tasks, fostering a team-oriented environment and assisting staff as needed
· Ensure that all staff, agencies, families, and the Board of Directors are treated with utmost courtesy and professionalism. Represent the agency’s mission and uphold principles of honesty, integrity, and respect
· Support and endorse the agency’s safety program to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and laws
· Collaborate with leadership to review policies, procedures, and best practices
· Stay informed about changes relevant to your responsibilities by reading industry publications and attending conventions and seminars, when appropriate, to enhance professional growth and development
· Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
· Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting
· Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
· Thorough understanding of policies and procedures used in non-profit organizations (may be subject to the Single Audit Act)
· Knowledge of internal control framework and best practices in the accounting field
· Proficient with Microsoft 365 or similar software, and cloud-based accounting and payroll software
Required Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
· At least seven years of related experience preferred

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
