Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Assistant Controller to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the financial operations of our organization, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards, and providing insightful financial analysis. This position requires a strong background in accounting principles and practices, as well as proficiency in financial software.
This position will move to take over for the current Controller in 2026!
Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting:
- Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow reports.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Support the annual budgeting process by gathering data and preparing schedules.
- Monitor and report budget variances, providing actionable insights to department heads.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Assist in developing and maintaining internal controls to protect company assets.
- Ensure compliance with tax, audit, and legal requirements by preparing supporting documentation.
Team Collaboration & Support:
- Provide guidance and support to accounting team members in day-to-day operations.
- Assist in onboarding and training new accounting staff.
Process Optimization:
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and workflows.
- Participate in evaluating and implementing accounting software or tools.
Stakeholder Support:
- Act as a secondary point of contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate with departments across the organization to ensure alignment of financial processes with operational needs.
Administrative & Vendor Management:
- Support the Controller in managing relationships with 401K plan administrators, insurance providers, credit card vendors, and sales tax consultants.
- Support compliance with GAAP and other regulatory standards.
- Conduct preliminary analyses of financial performance and prepare reports for the Controller and CFO.
Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
- 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
