Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly knowledgeable Rental Inspector / Code Enforcement Officer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, along with prior experience in construction, code enforcement, or a related field. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, and the ability to prepare thorough inspection reports and enforcement letters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct rental inspections and ensure compliance with housing and building codes.
- Perform code enforcement duties related to zoning, property maintenance, and municipal ordinances.
- Identify violations and provide clear recommendations for corrective action.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, violation notices, and correspondence.
- Communicate professionally with property owners, tenants, contractors, and municipal officials.
- Utilize Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel) for documentation and reporting.
- Stay updated on state and local building codes and ordinances.
- Assist with hearings, court proceedings, and other enforcement actions as needed.
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Prior construction experience or work in a related field preferred.
- Familiarity with building codes, zoning regulations, and municipal ordinances.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to write clear, detailed inspection reports and enforcement letters.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ICC certifications or other relevant inspection credentials are a plus.
- Experience in municipal code enforcement or rental inspections.
- Knowledge of BSA/CD.net or similar permitting/inspection software.
