Position: Equity Controller

Location: San Diego, CA 92130 (Fully In-Office)

Salary: $120,000 – $150,000 base bonus

A boutique real estate investment group is seeking a hands-on Equity Controller to join their fast-paced, high-impact team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong tax background—particularly in deal structuring—to grow into a leadership role and work alongside executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations related to acquisitions, sales, and cash management
• Support financial reporting processes, including month-end close and investor reporting
• Consolidate financials across multiple entities and prepare annual financial statements
• Ensure compliance with debt and lending agreements, managing financial risk
• Identify opportunities to streamline internal controls and improve reporting processes
• Provide mentorship and guidance to accounting staff, including future team management
• Collaborate directly with the CEO, COO, and CFO on key business initiatives

Ideal Candidate Profile

• 5 years of accounting experience, ideally coming from public accounting with strong tax exposure
• Deep understanding of real estate transactions and entity structuring
• Comfortable managing people and growing into a leadership position
• Collaborative, down-to-earth, and thrives in a non-ego, high-ownership environment
• CPA preferred
• Experience with Yardi is a plus
• Strong proficiency in Excel, Outlook, and general financial tools
