Job Summary: The ICF Nurse Manager oversees and manages nursing services within an OPWDD-regulated Intermediate Care Facility (ICF). This role ensures that nursing care meets state and federal regulatory requirements, promotes a person-centered approach, and aligns with the facility’s mission to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The Nurse Manager supervises nursing staff, coordinates care and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to enhance residents' quality of life and well-being.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Leadership & Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of the nursing department within the ICF.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate nursing staff to ensure high-quality care.
- Implement policies and procedures in compliance with OPWDD, state, and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including medical providers, therapists, and direct support professionals (DSPs), to ensure comprehensive care for residents.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Ensure that all nursing staff are current with required certifications and training.
- Cover nursing vacancies within the ICF when needed.
Resident Care Coordination:
- Develop and oversee individualized nursing care plans for residents.
- Monitor residents’ health conditions and adjust care plans as necessary.
- Advocate for residents’ health and well-being through proactive assessments and timely medical interventions.
- Ensure medication administration and management align with best practices and regulatory standards.
- Support a person-centered approach to care, emphasizing dignity, respect, and resident preferences.
Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Conduct regular audits and quality assurance reviews to ensure compliance with OPWDD, DOH, and CMS standards.
- Participate in inspections and surveys, addressing deficiencies and implementing corrective actions.
- Maintain infection control and emergency preparedness procedures within the nursing department.
- Develop and implement staff training programs to uphold the highest standards of nursing care.
Professional Development & Training:
- Provide mentorship and guidance to nursing staff to enhance clinical skills and professional growth.
- Conduct in-service training sessions on nursing procedures, OPWDD guidelines, and healthcare trends.
- Stay informed about developments in IDD nursing care and incorporate best practices into facility policies.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid New York State license. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. Experience in an OPWDD setting or IDD care preferred.
- CPR/BLS certification required.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Proficiency in regulatory compliance.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including 24-hour on-call responsibilities as needed.
