Job Purpose
Primary function of this role is to lead the engineering team that is accountable for locomotive safety, validation, and development of a reliable product. This includes defining the actions needed to ensure product safety compliance to relative standard and regulations; executing proactive reliability measures to ensure the product meets business quality targets; and working with the cross functional team to develop validation plans based on program risks and ensuring execution of these plans. This position will also be responsible for leading an engineering team that is accountable for supporting the product through the life of the locomotive working along side the customer service team.

Key Job Elements
- Provides leadership to the team and is accountable to ensure compliance with relevant safety standards and regulations;
- Ensures reliability programs and processes are in place to identify and address reliability issues, implement proactive reliability practices, and improve product reliability;
- Leads team in the development and execution of validation tasks to ensure the program risks are mitigated and there is no quality spike as the locomotive product is delivered into production;
- Accountable to capture program risks and develop mitigations, lead design out activities, and deploy risk management tools to ensure the program meets reliability and quality targets;
- Ensures budget and resources are allocated effectively and tools are in place to achieve department goals;
- Management and development of high performing engineering team;
- The position requires at a minimum 20% travel to customer locations, manufacturing facilities, testing sites, and engineering partnership locations.
Education / Training
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering field (e.g., chemistry, biology, engineering);
- Advanced technical degree and or MBA preferred.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience: 15 years of proven experience in validation, reliability demonstration, safety compliance; product development, or a related field;
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of validation, reliability, and safety compliance principles, concepts, and demonstrated ability to put into practice;
- Leadership and Communication: Demonstrated capability to lead teams, drive accountability, communicate effectively, and collaborate with other departments;
- Budget Management: Experience in developing and managing budgets;
- Ability to travel as required, both domestically and internationally.
Essential and Physical Activities Functions
- Strength – Position typically involves work in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment. Frequent sitting. Occasional standing and walking. Occasional light to medium-level lifting (up to 30 pounds);
- Motion – Position regularly requires standard motions associated with working in an office environment;
- Vision/Hearing Requirements – Frequent verbal communications, including both talking and hearing;
- Work Environment – Position is typically located in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment which may include a non-temperature-controlled environment, as well as exposure to noise (85 decibels), occasional exposure to temperature changes, heavy machinery and other hazardous working conditions requiring the use of PPE;
- Emotional Demands – Very high level of responsibility. Must be able to coordinate diverse aspects of a project. Requires significant interpersonal skills while sustaining very high standards;
- Safety – This is not a safety sensitive position, but may occasionally require the use of Personal Protective Equipment during visits to industrial areas.
