Description

Position Title:              Animal Adoption Advisor -  PAWS Cat City (Part-time, 8 hours/week)

Accountable To:          PAWS Cat City Manager

 

Starting Wage:              $20.00/hour

 

Purpose of Position:

 

To provide for the comfort and health care of animals at the shelter and to assist the public in their transactions with PAWS.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provides accurate information and courteous service to the public, in person, through phone calls and electronic communication, about all aspects of animal care and shelter operations.
  • Processes outgoing animals, accurately completing all paperwork, and entering information into the shelter database program. Handles and processes incoming money from adoptions, retail sales, donations, in accordance with written policies and procedures.
  • Provides information to prospective adopters in a courteous and educational manner to aid in the selection of companion animals suitable for their household, all in accordance with written adoption policies and procedures.
  • Handles and processes incoming money from adoptions, retail sales, donations, license sales, all in accordance with written policies and procedures.

 

Other Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage care of animals in accordance with written policies and procedures. Works closely with PAWS medical staff to provide appropriate medical care for animals at Cat City.
  • Administers vaccinations, immunizations and treatment for injuries or illness as prescribed by a veterinarian and other health care for animals as provided in written policies and procedures.
  • Assists the Cat City Manager and Shelter Managers with the evaluations of animals’ medical and behavioral needs in the shelter and at Cat City by maintaining accurate records and status changes as required. Completes behavior evaluations and associated paperwork.
  • Cleans all animal housing and treatment areas and provides food, care, and socialization for animals according to written procedures.
  • Cleans and prepares public areas, including bathroom, prior to opening.
  • Oversees, trains, provides assistance and feedback to volunteers in day-to-day performance of their duties. Assists the Cat City Manager and Programs Manager with volunteer oversight, scheduling, recognition, and retention activities.
  • May be assigned other related duties by management as needed.

 

Controls over Work

 

The Cat City Animal Adoption Advisor works under the general direction of the Cat City Manager and is expected to perform the established duties and essential functions without detailed supervision. 

 

Physical Demands

 

Position is located at PAWS Cat City facility in Seattle. Candidates must be able to lift a minimum of forty (40) pounds. Work is performed both in and out of the PAWS facility and requires lifting, bending, stooping, pushing and other moderately strenuous activities. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time, including working at a computer or animal care station. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

Qualifications


Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Training and/or experience in the animal care profession are highly desirable.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with previous experience working with animals in a humane society, animal shelter or veterinary clinic.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel computer programs, already possess basic computer skills and experience with PetPoint is highly desirable.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Capacity to work daily with companion animals and have a basic understanding of the needs and behavior of domestic cats and dogs.
  • Handle individual animals in a caring, safe and humane manner.
  • Work cooperatively with people and communicate clearly about PAWS’ mission, the care and treatment of animals, and the safety of the public, volunteers, and other employees.  Must be able to always represent PAWS professionally.
  • Ideal candidates embrace and embody the five core values of the organization: commitment, compassion, respect, kindness, and trust.
  • Be organized and flexible, and able to balance concurrent projects and adjust to rapid, changing needs. 
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, and can assist in creating a positive working environment built on team concepts.
