As a Construction Management Intern, you will work collaboratively with project managers and superintendents to assist with construction projects from design through construction. Typical work includes preparation of project work scopes, initiating project startup, creating and maintaining construction schedules, organizing job sites, scheduling inspections, promoting job site safety, and supervising completion of a final punch list.
Responsibilities:
Contribute to the project team to ensure they achieve project schedules and budgets.
Assist in managing multiple projects in a timely and accurate manner, monitoring overall project progress according to the project scope and available resources.
Participate in estimating the time required to complete a project.
Create project work scopes with Project Manager and Lead Construction Operations for bidding, attending pre-bid meetings and post-bid interviews. Assist in managing subcontractors to work scopes and contracts.
Help create and maintain an overall construction schedule utilizing Microsoft Project or similar software. Coordinate with Owner and subcontractors. Help prepare and execute project work plans. Monitor and alert the project team when changes occur in the project scope, and update schedules promptly.
Alert Lead Construction Services if you become aware of changes that could affect the project scope, schedule, or work completion.
Help schedule and conduct general inspections of the workers, their performance, and safety during construction.
Ensure an organized job site is maintained throughout the project. Help coordinate and supervise all construction activities. Create and maintain daily field reports of all construction activities.
Review field conditions and any affect they may have on other disciplines.
Participate with Lead Construction Operations to review project specific errors/omissions and assist with resolutions.
Prepare, schedule, and supervise completion of a final punch list.
Collaborate with various disciplines throughout Progressive Companies. Regularly communicate with Project Managers, Project Designers, Project Architects and Engineers to understand any changes to project design, scope, schedule and budget.
Promote job site safety, encourage safe work practices, and rectify job site hazards immediately. Enforce all safety programs and OSHA requirements on the jobsite. Attend safety meetings with subcontractors and ensure site safety with all construction activities.
Assist with directing field personnel to achieve completion of the project on schedule and within budget, with quality workmanship that conforms to original plans and specifications.
Understand what the deliverable needs to be to meet your client’s project needs and what it takes to make projects successful.
Qualifications:
Enrollment in an accredited construction management program.
Basic knowledge of the design and documentation process. Basic knowledge of architectural building systems and constructability. Basic knowledge of sustainability and other trends in the design/construction industry.
Willingness to learn and participate in the quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes.
Basic knowledge of applicable codes (and willingness to learn) along with ability to assist in conducting research for requirements that may need to be incorporated into technical documents.
Knowledge of construction materials, methods, sustainability, universal design, and other trends in the design and construction industry.
Knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
Strong math, analytical, design and problem-solving skills, and ability to communicate well, as demonstrated by your competencies.
Experience in reading construction documents and using ProCore preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook required. Experience in Project, SharePoint, and Teams preferred
