Legal Assistant
Legal Assistants are responsible for monitoring all tenant account balances, commencing & tracking legal cases, tracking all non-payment & holdover cases, and communicating with residents directly. Legal Assistants are expected to work as a member of the legal team to establish & maintain high levels of customer service, respect for, and communication with residents and staff.
Tenant Relations-
- Communicate with tenants regarding court ordered stipulations, non-payment of rent, lease violations, failure to establish utilities and holdover statuses.
- Draft, prepare and distribute in-house communication, including but not limited to lease violations, in-house arrears notice, affordable housing program guidelines, rental assistance resources, etc. using approved templates.
Administrative & Legal Administration Duties-
- Initiate & commence all collection and holdover cases for assigned portfolio.
- Update working holdover, lease violation & arrears spreadsheets.
- Monitor accounts when tenants pay partial or no rent.
- Provide informational information to tenants in need of rental assistance and refer internally to other departments for additional resources.
- Maintain updated legal office files.
- Investigate any possible errors in the tenant ledger and forward to Rent Administration for corrections.
- Monitor Eviction dates and communicate as necessary with property managers and supers.
- Attend any designated weekly or monthly meetings.
- Track legal stipulations, coordinate access for repairs and monitor rent stipulation payments.
- Attend court proceedings as required.
- Interact daily with attorney regarding all active legal cases.
- Update legal card in Yardi.
- Respond internally & externally pertaining to resident status- resident transfer inquiries, financial assistance, etc.
- Escalate difficult and decision-making matters to direct supervisor(s).
- Utilize all legal tools and resources available in real time.
- Protect the confidentiality of the company, residents, and applicant’s personal identifying information.
- Attend and provide case status and additional feedback during arrears and TM meetings.
- Working cooperatively with other staff members.
- Additional duties may be assigned.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
