About Us:
Project Canis is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving animal welfare through innovative toy donation programs and partnerships with shelters. Our mission is to ensure that every shelter animal gets a toy. In order to do so, we invite volunteers of all ages to create dog toys from recycled materials. We are supported entirely through grants and donations, allowing us to provide essential resources to animals in need.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Finance Manager to oversee our organization's financial strategy, grant writing initiatives, and fundraising efforts. This role is crucial in securing and managing the funding that enables Project Canis to fulfill its mission of supporting animal welfare across Florida. This is a volunteer position.
Key Responsibilities:
Grant Writing and Management:
The Finance Manager will spearhead our grant acquisition program, researching and pursuing opportunities through various foundations supporting animal welfare initiatives in Florida. This includes maintaining a comprehensive database of grant opportunities, preparing professional grant applications and letters of inquiry, and submitting approximately one grant application monthly. You will collaborate with the Executive Director for final review and work alongside the Treasurer to ensure accurate financial documentation.
Financial Planning and Oversight:
Working closely with the Treasurer and leadership team, you will develop annual budgets and produce quarterly financial statements. This includes monitoring and analyzing financial transactions across multiple payment platforms (PayPal, Instagram, Venmo, and Facebook), reviewing monthly bank statements, and ensuring compliance with grant reporting requirements.
Fundraising Initiatives:
You will manage our diverse fundraising portfolio, including our annual Giving Tuesday campaign on Facebook, merchandise sales, and various social media fundraising initiatives. The role involves collaborating with our marketing directors to develop and implement innovative fundraising campaigns while maintaining our existing donation channels.
Required Qualifications:
Experience in nonprofit financial management
Strong grant writing and research abilities
Excellence in written communication with attention to professional standards
Experience with budget development and financial reporting
Ability to manage multiple payment platforms and tracking systems
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Proficiency with spreadsheet management and financial tracking tools
Preferred Qualifications:
