Job Summary:

The Grants Accountant works to ensure the organization meets financial goals with respect to accounting and audits. Under the leadership of the Director of Finance, the Grants Accountant collaborates with the controller to manage the agency’s grants and budget management functions, including timely filing of funder vouchers and provides technical assistance and support to administrative staff including program directors and department heads, to help ensure effective ongoing budget management. The Grants Accountant will provide support during the agency's annual independent audit, as well as audits and fiscal reviews from funding agencies and regulators.

 

 

Responsibilities include:

 

Grants and Contracts 

  • The Grants Accountant under general supervision, manages the financial intricacies of grants, ensuring compliance with regulations and fostering effective collaboration with program staff 
  • Prepare detailed financial reports for timely submission to grantors, actively participate in budget development and conduct thorough financial analyses to address variances 
  • Maintain meticulous documentation, facilitate audit processes, and stay current with accounting standards and grant regulations 
  • Manage the financial aspects of grants, public and private foundation funding from inception to completion, ensuring compliance with grant guidelines and regulations 
  • Prepare grant proposal budgets, providing financial input and ensuring alignment with organizational goals 
  • Collaborate with Director of Finance, Director of Development & External Relations, and Program Leadership to develop grant budgets and monitor expenditures throughout the grant period 
  • Conduct regular financial analysis to identify variances and address potential budgetary concerns 
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate financial reports or vouchers to grantors, detailing fund utilization and performance against budget 
  • Maintain organized grant documentation, including financial reports, invoices, and correspondence with grantors 
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors and grantors during the grant-related audits 
  • Monitoring and supporting adherence to audit and grant requirements 
  • Stay abreast of changes in accounting standards and grant regulations to ensure compliance 
  • Manage other administrative functions, and special projects 
  • Assist the fiscal team with the development and preparation of the annual reports and fiscal year budgets for the related entities 
  • Assist the controller, with contract registration, budget submission, modifications and amendments, close-outs, and other required processes for grants and contracts to ensure timely registration and reimbursements 

 

Accounts Payable 

  • Oversee staff salary allocation process, assist programs with employee allocation changes and review variance reports to ensure allocation accuracy 
  • Analyze monthly revenue and expense reports to ensure accuracy and any variance that need to be addressed with assistance from the controller 
  • Provide support to cover functions in the agency’s Finance Department, particularly in payroll, AP, AR, Bank Reconciliation, reporting and maintains an understanding of these functions for cross-training purposes 
  • Collect and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual reports in an organized and accessible file 
  • Provide support with monthly closeouts 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting (preferred) and/or a Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in grant accounting, preferably in a nonprofit environment. 
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Uniform Guidance and grant compliance 
  • Experience with federal, state, and local government grants. 
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and grant management. 
  • Proficiency in accounting software and pay systems (e.g., Avid Pay, QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Fund-EZ) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel). 
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. 
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial staff. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and time management skills. 
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with spreadsheets 
  • Ability to work independently 

 

Project FIND participates in E-Verify, which confirms employment authorization through an electronic database maintained by the Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security. The E-Verify process is completed in conjunction with the Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification.  E-Verify is not used as a tool to pre-screen candidates. 

Salary : $65,000 - $85,000
