**Job Summary**
The Laboratory Specialist performs testing and maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. They comply with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies, process biological specimens for analysis, and evaluate and solve problems related to specimen collection and processing.
Responsibilities:
- Performs testing within the scope of training.
- Maintains accurate quality control records and acts as a liaison between laboratory and healthcare team.
- Ensures accuracy of information in computer systems and takes corrective actions.
- Instructs new associates and students as required.
- Completes required number of CE units.
Requirements:
- Doctoral, Master's or Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
- American Society of Pathology (ASCP) MLS or Categorical eligible at time of hire with certification achieved within one year of hire.
- Ability to move continuously about hospital and between workstations.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to disease bearing specimens, odorous chemicals, carcinogens, mutagens, low-level radiation, electrical hazards, and flammable liquids.
- Physical ability to lift or carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
