ACCOUNTABILITIES
*All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise*
- Oversees and directs the daily workflow.
- Establishes priorities and schedules.
- Monitors and promotes staff development through the use of performance, competency, and compliance standards.
- Conducts performance evaluations. Maintains positive performance communications.
- Monitors workflow. Analyzes for limiting factors, recommends and implements improvements.
- Directs and coordinates the quality assessment program with the laboratory/section. Ensures that the laboratory/section has a well-defined quality control procedure and is accountable for data.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, conferences, and professional affiliations.
- Ensures efficient, high-quality service according to established operational parameters.
- Ensures the efficient use of labor resources, money, and equipment to meet the goals of the health care system. Identifies budget needs and participates in annual budget preparation. Manages to annual budget.
- Evaluates and provides input on new/updated equipment and supplies. Plans and prioritizes applications, projects, and enhancements with the laboratory management team.
- Ensures section/laboratory complies with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Provides training for departmental safety compliance. Maintains compliance with all regulatory standards of accrediting agencies.
- Performs other duties as directed.
Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science
Skills: Must possess analytical, organizational, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills necessary to ensure efficient operations. Must be able to understand directions and be able to communicate and respond to inquiries. Requires effective interpersonal skills. Must be able to differentiate colors. Must be able to input and retrieve information from computer.
Years of Experience: 3-5 years laboratory experience
Certification: Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands: Must be able to move about hospital and between workstations. Must be able to tolerate exposure to disease bearing specimens, odorous chemicals, carcinogens mutagens, low-level radiation, electrical hazards, and flammable liquids. Must be able to occasionally move, lift and/or carry lightweight materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds up to 5% of the time.
