Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing medical and medication evaluation and management to a range of clients having co-occurring substance abuse and psychological disorders under the supervision of the Medical Director. The Nurse Practitioner assists with assessment and evaluation at time of admission to a residential or detox program or facility.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct intake evaluations, medication assessments, and crisis response to new and existing clients.
- Develop individual treatment plans based upon assessment data, and provide interventions as necessary including the provision of on-going medication management treatment.
- Provide consultation and health education to facility staff as it is relative to the treatment and medication needs of clients.
- Provide special assessments of clients awaiting discharge, participate in discharge planning for residential programs.
- Maintain documentation of treatment including treatment plans, progress notes, medication informed consent, treatment plan reviews, and other required information in compliance with agency and third-party compliance standards.
- Adhere to compliance guidelines for client care, policies, procedures, and documentation.
- Available for alternate, evening and weekend schedules and shifts may be required to meet client needs, state and regulatory agency requirements and business necessity.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with current and former clients, client family members and referral sources.
- Comply with company’s code of conduct.
- Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
Certifications:
- Valid Nurse Practitioner Licensure.
- Current BLS/CPR certification.
Experience:
- Three (3) years of experience working with persons with mental health diagnosis, and/or substance abuse disorders.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of serious mental illness and substance abuse disorders and treatment by a variety of appropriate therapeutic interventions including psychopharmacology.
- Knowledge of nursing practice and medical evaluation, physical diseases and treatment.
- Knowledge of psychiatric and medical emergency stabilization.
- Knowledge of social, psychological, and physical factors of mental and emotional disorders.
- Knowledge and ability to understand and use medical and psychological terminology.
- Knowledge of regulations pertaining to psychiatric nursing and the treatment of co-occurring disorders.
- Skill in using theories, principles, and techniques of group and individual psychotherapy.
- Skill in assessing symptoms and behavior patterns of emotionally disturbed and mentally ill patients.
- Knowledge of basic computer programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and function calmly in situations, which require a high degree of sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy.
- Ability to demonstrate Practice-Based Client Care and Procedural Skills.
- Skill in professional interaction and communication with clients.
- Ability to understand and adhere to Professional Code of Conduct.
Applicable State Requirements:
- Must meet pre-employment and maintain all applicable state and job-related guidelines for background screening, fingerprinting, drug test, health screening, DMV, Insurance, CPR/Basic First Aid and license/credential verifications.
