Painter

Location: Avalon Palm Springs Hotel, Palm Springs, CA

Position Summary: The Painter is responsible for performing skilled painting tasks to maintain and enhance the aesthetic appeal of the Avalon Palm Springs Hotel. This includes interior and exterior painting, refinishing furniture, and maintaining the hotel's overall appearance by ensuring that all surfaces are properly painted and restored to the highest standards. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with experience in painting, knowledge of various paint types, and the ability to work in a hospitality environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Painting & Finishing:
  • Apply paint, stains, varnishes, and other finishes to a variety of surfaces (walls, ceilings, doors, furniture, etc.) throughout the hotel.
  • Prep and prime surfaces, including sanding, filling holes, and removing old paint.
  • Work with various painting techniques (brush, roller, sprayer) to achieve a professional finish.
  • Ensure that the proper type of paint is used according to surface material and environmental conditions.
  • Maintain a high standard of safety when using chemicals, equipment, and ladders.
• Maintenance & Repairs:
  • Assist in touch-ups and repairs to existing painted surfaces as needed.
  • Fix minor cosmetic issues such as scratches, scuffs, or chipped paint on walls, doors, and trim.
  • Help in restoring damaged or worn-out furniture and other decorative elements in the hotel.
• Collaboration & Communication:
  • Coordinate with the maintenance and housekeeping teams to schedule and plan painting tasks, ensuring minimal disruption to guests.
  • Provide input on paint color choices, patterns, and designs to match the hotel’s aesthetic needs.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and hotel management regarding painting schedules, inventory needs, and any issues encountered.
• Inventory & Materials Management:
  • Keep track of paint, tools, and other materials used, ensuring that stock levels are maintained.
  • Properly store and dispose of unused materials following environmental and safety guidelines.
• Safety & Cleanliness:
  • Follow all safety protocols, including using personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring the work area is safe for guests and staff.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring that all tools and equipment are properly cleaned and stored after each task.
• Guest Interaction (if needed):
  • Occasionally engage with guests if the painting is occurring in a public area, ensuring minimal disruption and maintaining a positive guest experience.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a painter, preferably in the hospitality industry.
• Knowledge of painting techniques, tools, and materials.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in delivering high-quality work.
• Basic understanding of safety and health regulations related to painting.
• Ability to pull/push/lift heavy items up to 50 lbs, work at heights (using ladders and stairs), regular standing, sitting, and walking on uneven surfaces, and perform physical tasks as required.
• Flexibility to work on weekends or evenings if necessary.
• Ability to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced, guest-centric environment.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Previous experience in a hotel or resort setting.
• Familiarity with eco-friendly and low-VOC paints.
• Ability to assist with other maintenance tasks as needed.
• Certification or training in painting techniques or safety standards.

Work Environment:

• The position requires working both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
• The role may involve working at heights, and the use of ladders or scaffolding.
• The hotel environment may require multitasking and interacting with hotel staff and guests.
