Position Overview:
Due to growth, Propio is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join us at our corporate headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas. Successful candidates will have experience processing payroll for multiple entities and applying their knowledge of applicable laws and regulations to ensure compliance. This role will require working closely with HR and other departments to maintain accurate records and resolve payroll issues.
Responsibilities:
- Process bi-weekly/monthly payroll for employees, including wages, bonuses, commissions, overtime, and deductions
- Maintain and update employee payroll records, including tax status, benefits elections, and other applicable employee information
- Ensure accurate payroll calculations in accordance with company policies, tax laws, and government regulations
- Review timecards and attendance records for accuracy and resolve discrepancies
- Administer payroll deductions for benefits, garnishments, retirement contributions, etc.
- Prepare and submit payroll reports, including tax filings, earnings reports, and benefit deductions
- Ensure timely processing of payroll taxes in compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
- Coordinate with the financial reporting team to reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies
- Respond to payroll inquiries from employees in a timely and professional manner, providing support regarding pay statements, deductions, and benefits
- Assist in the preparation of year-end reports, including W-2s and other required filings
- Maintain complete confidentiality of employee payroll information and other sensitive data
- Assist with auditing payroll information for accuracy and compliance with internal policies and external regulations
- Stay up to date with changes in tax laws, wage regulations, and best practices related to payroll processing
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or equivalent combined education and work experience required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience processing payroll, preferably within a multi-state, growing organization
- In-depth knowledge of payroll software (e.g., Paylocity, ADP, Paychex, or other payroll platforms)
- Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in processing payroll and data entry
- Ability to adhere to strict deadlines and manage the pressure that accompanies payroll processing
- Strong organization and follow-through skills
- Possess a high level of integrity and an attitude of enthusiasm and positivity
- Strong interpersonal, business partnering and communication skills
- Superior Excel skills with the ability to manipulate and transform large data sets
