SUMMARY:
The Assistant Swim Team Coach is a part-time summer position and is responsible for the safe and responsible coaching of the Swim Team, which includes supervision of any swim team members and understanding current swim techniques.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:
The Assistant Swim Team Coach reports to the Head Swim Team Coach.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Must be able to demonstrate proper swim techniques to participants from in the water and on deck
- Provide instruction for swimmers during practices and meets
- Assist the Head Coach execute safe and organized swim team practices and competitions
- Assist in programming and operating the timing system during home meets
- Attend parents meeting, communicate with parents/guardians on how their swimmer can succeed on the swim team and answer their questions throughout the season
- Helps to enter information into swim software
- Provide Head Coach with line-up Friday prior to meet
- Enter swimmers from both districts into current swim software by the Monday prior to a meet
- Complete swimmer event slip with: swimmer’s name, event name, number of event and lane assignment Tuesday before meet
- Help with set up and tear down on day of competition
- Attach labels to ribbons, collate and give to swimmers Friday after meet
- Assist with tear down, clean-up, remove lane lines, flags and re-set lifeguard chairs.
- Prevent accidents through the enforcements of agency policies, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of persons using the swimming facilities
- Know, enforce, and follow all pool rules and policies. Be consistent and polite in your enforcement
- Complete any required trainings, as assigned by supervisor or Park District staff
- Thoroughly complete all incidents and accident reports
- Maintain contact with the Head Swim Team Coach as needed
- Attend away swim meets with team
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
- Strong people and customer service skills
- A good understanding of the agency operations and organizational structure with strong attention to organization, accuracy and detail.
- Ability to communicate with other teams, agency staff, parents/guardians and swimmers
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to needs of swimmers as well as identifying potential safety hazards
- Abilities to observe staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce safety regulations
- Follow policies, and apply supervisory authority to correct problems.
- Maintain good work ethic and sportsmanship
PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- must work closely with Head swim coach and lifeguards
- must work well with the general public
- must work under supervision and direction of supervisors
- be responsible for the safety of the swim team
- may have to work under stressful situations during aquatic emergencies
- has to be able to make quick decisions to assure safety in and out of the pool
PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- able to walk long distances (>800 yards) and stand for long periods of time (2-3 hours)
- some bending, kneeling and reaching items off floors and shelves
- lift and move storage boxes and other supplies up to 10lbs
- perform repetitive hand / arm movements when working on computer keyboard
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- will be exposed to outside weather conditions, which can include cold, rain and extreme heat

COMPENSATION:
$1,700 stipend for swim season

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two years of swim team experience
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
- CPR/AED required.
- Must have own transportation to travel to and from swim team “away” competition
