SUMMARY:
The Park Maintenance Laborer is responsible for various maintenance tasks related to parks, facilities, and equipment. This is a part-time, seasonal non exempt hourly position that may include working evenings, weekends and holidays.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISIOR:
The Park Maintenance Laborer will report directly to the Superintendent of Facilities and Parks or Parks Foreman.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Attendance at work site required each scheduled day.
- Performs mowing and trimming of turf areas with tractors and small mowers.

- Performs routine and preventive maintenance on park grounds and facilities.
- Assists with seasonal operations and special projects.
- Assists with custodial tasks on park grounds and facilities

- Maintains effective two-way communication with immediate supervisors about park conditions.
- Communicates professionally with coworkers and with the public.
- Effectively and safely operates all necessary equipment.
- Wears personal protective equipment for job function when needed.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
- Attends staff and in-service training meetings.
- Assists with other Park District maintenance and repairs as assigned.

PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
The Park Maintenance Laborer may have possible stress while working irregular and overtime hours during peak times, and working in public view. Ability to work within a diverse population and varied personalities.
PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Able to lift or carry 75 pounds up to 50 yards, to walk long distances (>800 yards), and to stand for long periods of time (2-3 hours). Able to access remote natural areas within the district’s holdings. Exposure to noisy equipment, exhaust fumes, and chemicals. Periods of stooping, climbing, reaching and working on ladders.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Exposure to all weather conditions.
COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS:
Responsible, with good communication skills, able to take directions and handle all tasks and equipment safely and with sound judgment.
PAY RATES:
Starting at $15/hr

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum high school graduate.
- Experience in park, recreation, facility, or general grounds/landscape maintenance, repair, and construction field desired.
- Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written directions with little or no direct supervision.
- Valid Illinois driver’s license.
- Driver of road vehicles must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical, drug test and hearing test.
- CPR/AED first-aid Certification and Mandated Reporter Training is required 30 days of hire date.
- Successful criminal background check must be completed prior to start date.
Salary : $15
