Carrier Development Manager

The Carrier Development Manager will support the Procurement Department by identifying and developing transportation carriers for the ProTrans network. This role will focus on expanding the carrier base and optimizing the relationships within the ProTrans transportation network to ensure a competitive advantage for the company and its customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the LTL strategy for ProTrans
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with carriers, negotiating rates, and securing capacity to meet customer demands
  • Negotiate competitive rates for ProTrans LTL network
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication between carriers and internal teams to facilitate smooth freight operations.
  • Proactively resolve any issues that arise
  • Collaborate with commercial and operations teams to analyze freight trends and carrier performance to continuously improve our service offerings
  • Keep up-to-date with market trends and regulatory changes affecting LTL transportation
  • Ensure compliance with all company and regulatory requirements

Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership skills
  • At minimum of 5-7 years of experience with an LTL carrier or 3PL, with a specific focus on LTL.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • The Manager must also exhibit strong problem-solving and analytical skills, along with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong negotiation skills to manage carrier rates and terms effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills to build relationships with senior management and clients.
  • Ability to analyze carrier performance and recommend strategies for improvement.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Problem-solving mindset, with the ability to implement process improvements to drive efficiency.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills And Abilities

Ability to deal with personnel with diverse ethnic background. Advanced problem solving skills a must. Advanced writing and verbal communications skills. Advanced time management and organizational skills.
