Job Title: Patient Financial Services Representative
Our healthcare facility is seeking a Patient Financial Services Representative to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing patient financial information, communicating third-party reimbursement details, and determining the patient’s portion due for healthcare services. They will assess social and financial situations, referring uninsured or qualifying patients to assistance programs.
Responsibilities:
- Handle Inquiries: Fields incoming calls and addresses all finance/billing-related inquiries.
- Insurance Information: Interviews patients or responsible parties to obtain missing insurance details and updates accounts accordingly.
- Financial Assistance: Evaluates the need for financial assistance and discusses the patient’s financial responsibility.
- Insurance Verification: Refers accounts for insurance verification and benefits coverage to the appropriate staff.
- Assistance Referral: Identifies patients with no third-party reimbursement or financial assistance needs and refers them to available assistance programs.
- Payment Collection: Collects patient portions or sets up payment arrangements according to hospital guidelines based on ability to pay.
- Documentation: Accurately documents all financial information and actions in patient accounts.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Stays current on Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care Contracts, and compliance regulations, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma required. An associate degree preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in patient accounting, insurance verification, financial counseling, and medical terminology Call center experience, along with customer service, inbound call management
- Patient collections within a healthcare environment
- Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
