Providence Day School’s World Language TK-12 program is driven by the standards provided by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). Our Lower School language program was nationally recognized in 2016 in receiving the Melba D. Woodruff Award for Exemplary Elementary Foreign Language Program.
This position is a full-time teaching position beginning August, 2025.
Responsibilities: The Lower Spanish Teacher will report to the Head of Lower School and will:
Be responsible for teaching Spanish classes to students in grades Transitional Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Create, develop, and identify age-appropriate curriculum and authentic resources.
Effectively collaborate by following the curriculum and plans developed by the Lower School World Language team.
In addition to the normal teaching responsibilities, this person will perform periodic duty assignments (lunch, traffic, etc.) assigned by Lower School administration.
Required Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Education (K-12).
Proficiency at the Advanced Mid level or higher (based on ACTFL standards).
Superb organizational skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
Three or more years of direct teaching experience in the field.
A Master’s degree
Proficient technology skills, with knowledge of the Google platform is a plus.
Experience teaching in a FLES program.
Working knowledge of ACTFL proficiency standards and the ability to teach the three modes of communication.
A focus on designing lessons and activities centered on listening and speaking skills.
Cultural competency and knowledge of culturally responsive approaches to education.
Candidates should demonstrate a strong academic background and a commitment to fostering language proficiency in a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
Salary and Benefits: Providence Day School is committed to attracting and retaining outstanding employees through a compensation plan that compares favorably with those of other independent schools both locally and nationwide.
