SUMMARY:

The Restorative Staff (RS) is responsible for providing nursing restorative care to ensure residents attain or maintain the highest possible physical, mental and emotional well-being possible for each resident without decline unless the decline is documented as unavoidable. Providence Health Care, Inc. is committed to providing care that recognizes each resident’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs beyond the traditional nursing procedures and protocols. The RS reports directly to the Administrator of Health Care but will be supervised by MDS Coordinator and Restorative Program Coordinator. The RS provides care to residents that is designed to strengthen muscles, assist with mobility, promote independence, prevent functional declines and others in our current standards of care and practice and applicable state/federal regulations.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Intermediate knowledge of routine restorative therapy treatments, techniques, and modalities.
  • Intermediate knowledge of the techniques used in lifting, moving, and transporting residents.
  • Intermediate knowledge of possible hazards to residents during treatment and necessary precautionary and remedial measures.
  • Intermediate knowledge of the purposes and goals of restorative therapy treatments.
  • Ability to demonstrate safe and proper techniques used in lifting, moving, and transporting residents.
  • Ability to work effectively with persons with physical and/or mental disabilities.
  • Ability to keep and maintain records of equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Ability to know and support facility philosophy, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to promote favorable public relations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other staff.
  • Ability to work well with computers.

INTERPRETATION OF RESPONSIBILITY

The RS must possess and demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of safe, restorative nursing care practices. The RS must also be able to verbalize and demonstrate appropriate knowledge of good body mechanics, as well as the ability to evaluate and document the effectiveness of the restorative care received by the resident. Other duties of the RS include:

  • Performs Active Range of Motion (AROM) and Passive Range of Motion (PROM) in a safe manner to residents as assigned by the current written program and the resident’s overall plan of care.
  • Ambulates residents as assigned by the current written program and the resident’s overall plan of care while utilizing appropriate equipment or devices in a safe manner.
  • Assists residents to apply and remove splints or prostheses as assigned by the current written program and the resident’s overall plan of care.
  • Encourages the residents to perform tasks for him/herself as appropriate and as assigned by the current written program and the resident’s overall plan of care.
  • Provides good body alignment, positioning device and contracture padding as appropriate and as assigned by the current written program and the resident’s overall plan of care.
  • Reports to the Administrator any adverse conditions experienced by the resident during the provision of restorative nursing care including, but not limited to, pain.
  • Evaluates and documents the resident’s progress as indicated by PHC, Inc. policies and procedures. Communicates results to the Administrator and seeks input and supervision from the Staff Nurse to confirm findings.
  • Practices good body mechanics while delivering restorative nursing care to prevent injuries to self or to others.
  • Cooperates with licensed rehabilitative therapists when providing restorative nursing care to residents when appropriate.
  • Understands and agrees with Providence Health Care, Inc. philosophy and goal to maintain, improve and/or enhance each resident’s quality of care and quality of life.
  • Treats all residents, family members, and employees fairly and with kindness, dignity, and respect.
  • Performs all tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures and in a timely manner.
  • Is flexible, receptive, and adaptive to change
  • Exhibits teamwork with all employees and holds others accountable in delivering the best care.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Presents a professional appearance and serve as a role model.
  • Makes sure that grievances and complaints are reported appropriately.
  • Reports to work on time when scheduled.
  • Demonstrates self-respect, respect for others, and acts with integrity.
  • Engages in quality conversation with residents.
  • Assures that residents’ rights and family requests are maintained at all times, reporting suspected deviations to an immediate supervisor.
  • Delivers excellent customer service at all times.
  • Participates in scheduled training, in-services, Relias Modules, and educational classes.
Requirements:

EDUCATION

A RS must have completed instruction and training in restorative care procedures and have appropriate documentation as evidence contained in their employment file of the facility. A RS must possess current Certified Nurse Assistant status in accordance with statutory requirements, if performing job duties within C.N.A. job description/certification which includes but is not limited to: ADLs, feeding & swallowing, dressing & grooming.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical

  • Will need to be able to stand and sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist and reach to the floor.
  • Must have eye/hand coordination sufficient to set up medical equipment.
  • Pushes/pulls treatment carts weighing 100 pounds a distance of 600 feet.
  • Must be able to clearly speak at a volume adaptable to the hearing impaired.
  • Lifts and carries equipment weighing 25 pounds.

Sensory

  • Must be able to receive and follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Must be able to assess changes in resident conditions.
  • Must be able to respond to audible emergency signals, alarms, call lights and telephones.

Cognitive

  • Must be able to remember multiple assignments over an extended period of time.
  • Be able to remember data derived from assessments and document, review, specific requests, ideas and concepts and relate them as necessary.
  • Must be able to concentrate on details during constant interruptions.
