CHILDCARE TEAM LEAD - 3rd Shift - 10:45 pm - 7:00 am - West Campus

Providence House Mission Statement

Reports To: Crisis Nursery Childcare Supervisor

 

Major functions: Oversee the daily operations of the childcare floor, supervising the childcare provider team and volunteers to ensure a trauma-informed care environment.

 

Staff Management

  •   Support hands-on training to childcare team and volunteers.
  •   Oversee daily management of staff performance and address issues verbally and through written documentation.  Communicate and resolve issues with the Crisis Nursery Manager.
  •  Provide input in the 30,60,90 day and annual performance evaluations of the childcare team.  
  • Coach, model and mentor the childcare team in the Crisis Nursery Model and ensuring adherence to ODJFS, CARF and Providence House policies and procedures.
  •  Supervise volunteers in completing tasks that aide in the completion of shift requirements or childcare.  Inform volunteers of communicable diseases, low census, or other shift needs.
  • Utilize Trauma-Informed Care and Conscious Discipline techniques when in ratio.  Monitor the use of these practices by childcare team members at all times.
  • Assist with the monthly schedule, ensuring coverage for PTO, self-care, floating holidays, bereavement, etc.
  • Verify team member clock in and clock out within the UKG system for payroll accuracy as needed.

Administrative Tasks

  • Know and understand rules pertaining to childcare as outlined in 5101:2-5 and 5101:2-9, ODE and CARF standards.
  • Communicate shift summary and any issues/problems to oncoming childcare supervisor or team lead.
  • Ensure volunteers sign in and out accordingly, documenting their arrival/departure time in the binder.
  • Complete and process appropriate documentation including, Critical Incident Reports, disclosures, etc. by the end of shift.
  • §Answer phones, door, receive gifts/donations and complete the donation form.
  •  In conjunction with the Facilities Department oversee flow of inventory, report item shortages to Facilities Department and the  Crisis Nursery Manager. 
  • Be culturally competent and supportive of diversity in both service to clients and through professional interactions.

Family Support

  • Document home, day, virtual or onsite visits and appointments for children with guardians. Document the presence of any guests/visitors, as well as concerns. In addition, as appropriate, complete medication release form including accurate pill counts.
  • Communicate status of children to guardians in person or via phone and manage child/guardian phone communications as appropriate.
  • Conduct intakes and discharges with appropriate documentation.  Count and document all clothing and personal belongings going home and complete Medication Discharge form and relevant pill counts.

Childcare Provider Team Support

  • Oversee preparation and serving of meals. Oversees implementation of daily food program to meet children’s nutritional needs; ensures that substitutions are provided for children with dietary restrictions; child food allergies and how to accommodate children with allergies.
  • Manage the administration of medication as prescribed by medical professional, creating medication sheets, completing pill counts, obtaining side effect documentation, and creating medication case notes for any errors upon occurrence.
  • Coordinate transportation for children to and from appointments, field trips, school, etc, with assistance of Crisis   Nursery Manager. Assign staff for transportation duties from the valid driver’s list.
  • Report concerns regarding child behaviors, disclosures, and parental concerns to child’s assigned social worker in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the implementation of the weekly curriculum, by overseeing staff in the completion of activities with the children.
  • Responsible for the implementation of behavior management techniques by childcare team as requested by the Crisis Nursery Manager or other program team members.

Nurturing Care and Trauma Informed Practices

  • Provide an inclusive environment for children and families.
  • Model healthy behaviors and provide social guidance to the children.
  • Utilizing Providence House curriculum, stimulate children’s development with a daily routine and enrichment activities.
  • Complete Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social Emotional Screening and 30-day adjustment assessments as needed. Document developmental milestones and concerns on children’s daily care sheets.
  • Exhibit strong emotional awareness and self-regulation.
  • Practice calming techniques with children.
  • Build strong relationships with children and practice “noticing”, mindfulness, encouragement, and praise.
  • Use clear, assertive, and non-threatening communication with children.
  • Offer choices whenever possible to encourage cooperation.
  • Operate with positive intent for children’s behavior and coach them toward appropriate behavior.  Use empathic skills to help children understand and manage their emotions.
  • Utilize positive touch, redirection, and time out when needed for behavior management according to the approved behavior management plan for the child’s age using time-in first before issuing consequences.
  • Attend to the children’s daily physical and personal needs, including bathing, toileting, hygiene, and medication management under direction of Supervisor.

Trainings and Meetings

  • Complete required training hours (52 in first year, 24 in all subsequent years) in accordance with mandated deadlines and anniversaries as defined by State regulations.
  • Acquire CPR/First Aid certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Obtain Serv Safe food handler’s certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Attain OCCRA Level 1 Trauma Informed Care certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Attend Supervisory training
  • Secure training from the Department of Children and Youth (DCY) on the Notification and Documentation of Critical Incidents; OAC 5101:2-9-23 through the Ohio Certification for Agencies and Families (OCAF) system within 4 months.
  • Attend management meetings, staff meetings, pre-shift meetings and training as designated.

 

Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or GED required.  CDA, Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree or Masters in Early Childhood Education, Social Work or related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of direct childcare experience
  • 2-4 years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power point, Outlook), case management software and timekeeping systems.
  • Ability to work evening, weekend and holiday schedules as needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Conscious Discipline techniques preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
  • Valid State of Ohio driver’s license and transportation
  • Must pass background check and drug screen.

 

Physical Requirements: Candidate must be able to lift 40 pounds without restriction, bend at the waist, grasp, handle, and lift weight overhead, and have mobility in sitting, kneeling, crawling, and running which is required in daily course of childcare.
