General Summary of Duties : Ensures all components of the computer systems are working in unison i.e. from hardware, including servers and computers, to the network to the software. Analyze problems and ensure that the network is available to all users. Solve problems reported by the users as well as the automated monitoring network system and recommend future upgrades. Responsible for security procedures of the systems and maintaining the servers, both internet and intranet systems. Ensure servers are backed up and that server information is secure from unauthorized access.

Supervision Received : Reports directly to Chief Operating Officer.

Supervision Exercised : None.

Essential Functions :

Project Lead on any / all IT related projects.

  • Designs, installs, configures and maintains servers and other computer systems.
  • Ensure the system is working at its optimum best and maintain the Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) and internet system or segment of a network system.
  • Troubleshoot user problems or problems that come through monitoring of automated network systems.
  • Monitor the network system to see that all the system users have access to the network.
  • Improve the systems and network configurations, suggest changes and propose hardware and software upgrades related to the changes.
  • Examine new technologies and make use of them or suggest implementations.
  • Maintain servers and frequent backup so that there is no data loss due to outages and other malfunctions.
  • Gives the necessary input of system administrator related solutions for various projects and operational needs.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
  • Monitor security checks regularly to verify that the system has not been breached.
  • Ensure that all the file systems and system data are backed up off-site daily.
  • Carry out regular file archival and purge as needed.
  • Investigates and explores new technologies to ensure that the company is up to date with the most recent technology.
  • Meets with all vendors, requests quotes for equipment and work directly with Purchasing Coordinator to obtain equipment at the best cost possible.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with local vendors and IT Associations.
  • Recover and repair from failures due to hardware malfunctions or software crashes. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
  • Maintain operation, configuration and other procedures.
  • Carry out ongoing performance tuning, upgrade the hardware and resource optimization as needed.
  • Established systems safeguards by directing disaster preparedness development, conducting preparedness test.
  • Advises senior management by identifying critical security issues, recommending risk-reduction solutions.
  • Protects computer assets by developing and maintaining security strategies, directing system control development and access management, monitoring, control, and evaluation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS :

Knowledge :

1. Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and systems.

2. Knowledge of computer systems and applications.

3. Knowledge of research methods and procedures sufficient to compile data and prepare reports.

4. Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation.

5. Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make calculations, balance and reconcile figures, and make changes accurately.

Skills :

1. Skill in problem solving, analytical and communication.

2. Skill in reviewing and editing reports and correspondence.

3. Skill in written and verbal communication.

4. Skill in the operation of office equipment.

5. Skills in problem solving and the ability to pay attention to detail.

Abilities :

1. Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities.

2. Ability to work effectively with physicians, staff, the public and external agencies.

3. Ability to communicate effectively to customers of varying cultures, psycho-social needs and ages.

4. Ability to establish / maintain effective relationships with staff at all levels.

5. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner.

Education : Bachelor's degree in a related field such as computer science, information technology, computer engineering, computer programming, management information systems (MIS) preferred. One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.

Experience : Five to Seven years of experience in hardware and networking, systems administration and in a health care organization preferred. Supervisory experience necessary.

Certificate / License : Requires Microsoft MCSA, MCSE. Certificate or work experience with Microsoft MCITP, CNE, Cisco CCNA or Comp TIAs A or Network , or Sun Certified SCNA.

Alternative to Minimum Qualifications : Additional appropriate experience may be substituted for additional training. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for one year of experience.

Physical / Mental Demands :

Must be able to sit 6-8 hours a day using a computer terminal. Occasionally needs to lift 25 pounds. Requires hand-eye coordination. Occasional stress during deadline periods.
