Teacher - K-12 ELL Collaborative (SY 24-25)

Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) seeks an exceptional K-12 ENGLISH LEARNER COLLABORATIVE (ELC) TEACHER who is highly qualified and skillful to join our community of teachers, students and stakeholders. The Rhode Island Right to Read Act was passed in July of 2019 and requires educators to exhibit either proficiency in or awareness of the knowledge and practices of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy. Please be advised that this position requires Structured Literacy Proficiency Level within one year of hire.

Under the direct supervision of the building administrator with the support of the Office of Multilingual Learners, the K-12 English Learner Collaborative (ELC) teacher is primarily responsible for providing direct English Language Development instruction, as necessary and appropriate, to Multilingual  Learners.. The K-12 ELC teacher should ensure that appropriate supports for MLL students are in place to meet their language development needs. The K-12 ELC teacher is also responsible for using district approved software to maintain accurate records and data to monitor the progress and inform the instruction of identified Multilingual Learners. The K-12 ELC Teacher will provide direct instruction to MLL students as necessary and appropriate.

The K-12 ELC Teacher, as appropriate, will monitor the progress of identified MLL students within the school. The K-12 ELC teacher will work in coordination with administrative teams, coach teams, RTI teams, and any additional student support teams as appropriate.

We serve approximately 22,000 students at 37 elementary, middle, and high schools. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Combined, our students and families speak 55 different languages and hail from 91 countries of origin. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in the applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.

RIDE Certification Requirements: 

• All Grades English to Speakers of Other Languages Teacher, Grades PK-12

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Support dually identified students.
2. Participate in IEP meetings for English Learners, acting as MLL liaison and team member to provide information and interpret data in relation to  language acquisition, time in program, educational history, and student demographics.
3. Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active and engaging learning.
4. Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment, using relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
5. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities and provide appropriate feedback on assignments.
6. Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing a warm, welcoming, and culturally relevant environment.
7. Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and regularly use data to observe and evaluate student performance and development to adjust teaching strategies.
8. Maintain and update accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
9. Communicate information regularly to students, colleagues, and families regarding student progress and student needs.
10. Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities to support all students.
11. Actively participate in and contribute to department, school, district and parent meetings and professional development.
12. Assign and grade classwork, homework, tests, and assignments according to state standards.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary : $46,811 - $88,236
