This position will provide professional legal support to the Department of Legal Affairs (“DLA”) attorneys generally and/or in a specific practice area or across practice areas. This position will be responsible for the coordination", provision, and completion of various legal support tasks as outlined below or requested by a supervising attorney or other team member in support of Providence St. Joseph Health’s various operations within its operating footprint.
The Paralegal should enjoy a fast-paced environment and have a focus on the accurate and timely completion of legal tasks. This position may interact frequently with internal and external clients, outside counsel, third party vendors and business associates.
Maintains the strictest confidentiality, trustworthiness and integrity at all times.
Understands ABA Model rule 5.3 and how it applies to a Paralegal. Actively avoids the unauthorized practice of law.
Enhance own professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, review of current literature, in-service meetings, and DLA-organized CLE offerings.
Monitor and assist with all aspects of projects or legal matters including, but not limited to, transactions, investigations, and litigation.
At direction of attorney actively takes part in creating, tracking and managing ongoing matters and prioritizing the same.
Requests needed documentation and information from business partners at direction of attorney or in-line with practice group standards.
Assist with a variety of matters to include but not be limited to, intellectual property matters including copyright, trademark and patent filings; internal advice matters on a wide variety of subjects; regulatory matters, a wide variety of contracting matters, medical staff matters, and pre litigation disputes.
Enter timely status updates in DLA’s matter management system (Legal Tracker), ensure the matter record is complete and accurate, and ensure all documents are filed to the appropriate matter using DLA’s document management system (iManage).
May coordinate conflict waiver requests and ensures they comply with established requirements for reviewing and considering such requests.
May assist with support for governmental inquiries, civil investigative demands, other regulatory investigations, and various components of litigation.
Provide support for regulatory filings including certificates of need.
Assist with matters relating to Medical Staff, including facilitating the provision of legal advice to business partners regarding issues such as Peer Review, credentialing, Board Investigations, miscellaneous complaints.
Assist with drafting and review of a wide variety of physician/provider agreements and agreement templates.
Assist with drafting and review of wide variety of legal documents and agreements, including, but not limited to clinical education/affiliation agreements; Non-Disclosure Agreements; letters of intent; Business Associate Agreements; and other agreements.
May participate in the review and revision of operational policy reviews and revisions. Including research into relevant statutes.
Maintain knowledge of various federal and state healthcare laws including Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Medicare and Medicaid billing rules, HIPAA-HITECH, and EMTALA, and explain the broad concepts of each law to a variety of audiences.
Required qualifications:
Associate Degree ABA-approved Paralegal Studies Program -Or-
Certificate from a paralegal program at, or a degree from, an accredited secondary institution which requires at least 24 semester units in law-related courses.
2 years Paralegal experience in a relevant practice area with an in-house legal team, or equivalent experience in a law practice setting.

2 years Demonstrated experience performing substantive legal work for multiple attorneys in a relevant practice area.
