Substance Use Program Clinical Director
Position Overview:
The Clinical Director is a key member of the Executive Staff, responsible for overseeing all aspects of client care, program development, and regulatory compliance. This role combines clinical expertise, administrative oversight, and strategic planning to ensure the effective delivery of high-quality substance use treatment services.
Reports to: Executive Director
Supervises: Substance Use Program Supervisor, Prevention Supervisor, Therapists, Behavioral Analysts, and other clinical staff
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Leadership and Program Management:
- Implement SUPR Regulations and oversee treatment, prevention, and DUI services
- Design, manage, and evaluate therapeutic programs using evidence-based practices
- Conduct program assessments and implement quality enhancements
- Oversee social and recreational activities for clients
- Provide 10-15 billable hours of direct counseling weekly
- Develop treatment interventions for various recovery phases
- Guide staff in co-occurring disorder treatment and referrals
- Facilitate interdisciplinary staff meetings
Staff Development and Supervision:
- Conduct weekly supervision with program staff
- Manage staff schedules, time off, and performance evaluations
- Oversee staff orientation, training, and professional development
- Provide clinical supervision to all direct service personnel
- Participate in hiring, disciplining, and terminating employees as needed
- Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with SUPR, CARF, and other relevant regulations
- Prepare for and participate in accreditation, licensing, and other surveys
- Develop and maintain Treatment and DUI policies and procedures
- Evaluate current level of client care through data analysis and chart audits
- Develop medical privacy and data security policies
Administrative and Strategic Duties:
- Monitor SUPR grant requirements and adjust programming accordingly
- Prepare annual reports and service plans
- Participate in executive meetings and quality assurance reviews
- Collaborate on program expansion and strategic planning
- Maintain relationships with outside agencies and referents
- Review and analyze program effectiveness and industry-related statistics
Client Advocacy and Support:
- Mediate client concerns, complaints, and requests
- Ensure timely resolution and reporting of client issues
- Work closely with all members of the treatment team
Safety and Training:
- Cooperate with Safety Committee directives
- Document and report unusual incidents
- Participate in agency training events
- Complete required continuing education
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Mental Health, Social Work, Counseling, or related field
- Active state licensure (LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, LPC) or CADC (Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor)
- 8 years of experience in behavioral health field, with 3 years in management (preferred)
- Understanding of substance use disorders, co-occurring conditions, and insurance documentation
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant clinical software
- Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and reliable vehicle
- CPR and First Aid certifications (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
