General Description :

This position is responsible for supervising, coordinating, managing and maintaining the district's internal and external network systems. In addition, this role must provide a high level of customer communication to maintain satisfaction, coordinate support and implementations. There may be a need to provide 1st & 2nd level support depending on the situation, in addition to maintaining IT back-end infrastructure including servers, networking equipment, and firewalls.

Minimum Required Qualifications :

To be considered for this position, the candidate must possess the following required education, certification, skills, experience and / or qualifications. Employees are responsible for obtaining / retaining the most current statutory and administrative rule requirements for their position.

  • Education / Training :
  • Minimum of a BA / BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, or five (5) years of successful experience in a position working with networks and back-end infrastructure systems

  • Knowledge / Abilities / Skills :
  • Knowledge and applied understanding of a wide range of hardware and software in diverse technology environments.

  • Expert knowledge of Cisco hardware including routers, switches and firewalls.
  • A satisfactory driving record with a valid commercial driver's license, class B with passenger endorsement.
  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing IT policy and best practice guides for the district.
  • Identifying and acting on opportunities to improve and update the network and system infrastructure.
  • Coordinating and executing communications to customers including issue management, project management updates etc.
  • Overseeing and determining time frames for major IT projects including system updates, upgrades, migrations and outages.
  • Advise and keep appraised, senior leadership on ongoing IT projects, issues, and resolutions.
  • Manage, oversee and at times contribute to system and network operations.
  • Run regular network and data security checks on systems and remediate the findings.
  • Follow standard procedures. Conduct follow up when needed to ensure closure of infrastructure issues.
  • After-hours technical support on an as-needed basis.
  • Stay current with system information, changes, updates potential vulnerabilities.
  • Participates in any and all reasonable work activities as assigned by management.
  • Experience with VMware and Windows Server Operating Systems
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint cloud services
  • Experience with Cisco firewalls, routers, and switches.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school district.
  • Performance Evaluation / Accountability :

    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Proviso Township High Schools District 209 Board's policy on evaluation of personnel. All evaluations shall comply with State and Federal law.

Ability to work in an office environment, sitting, standing, light lifting, filing, operating office machines and computers, communicating with staff and others. Occasional lifting, otherwise non-demanding physical office activities.

    The noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet / moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with the other staff. The employee is directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.

  • Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
  • Stand, walk, crouch, and do moderate lifting up to 40 lbs.

  • Salary Range : Regionally competitive, based on experience and qualifications : $104,613 - $141,535

Interviews of selected qualified applicants will be conducted, and a qualified candidate will be recommended by the hiring supervisor to the Office of Human Resources.
