Position Overview:
A Barback supports the bartending team by ensuring the bar area is stocked, clean, and organized. The role involves a combination of customer service, organization, and physical tasks to keep the bar running smoothly during high-volume hours. A barback plays a critical role in ensuring that bartenders can focus on making drinks while the barback handles prep, cleaning, and restocking duties.
Key Responsibilities:- Restocking: Ensure the bar is stocked with the necessary supplies, including liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, straws, napkins, and glassware.
- Maintaining Cleanliness: Clean and organize the bar area, including wiping down surfaces, taking out trash, cleaning glasses, and ensuring the bar is sanitized and orderly.
- Supporting Bartenders: Assist bartenders with preparing garnishes, opening bottles, retrieving spirits, and any other tasks that enable the bartender to serve customers quickly and efficiently.
- Managing Ice: Ensure the bar is always stocked with ice, whether it's filling ice bins or restocking from storage.
- Changing Kegs: Handle the replacement and setup of new kegs, ensuring a smooth flow of draft beer.
- Customer Interaction: Assist customers in a friendly and courteous manner, refilling water, delivering drinks, or helping with any specific requests.
- Stock Rotation: Keep track of stock levels and ensure that older items are used first to prevent waste and maintain quality.
- Assist in Closing: Help bartenders at the end of the shift with cleaning, closing, and preparing the bar for the next day.
- Experience: Previous experience in a bar, restaurant, or customer service environment is preferred but not required.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy kegs and boxes, stand for long periods, and move around quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication: Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
